Academics at Florida State University

Surprisingly Easy

I'm very unhappy with the lack of professors I actually have. Out of 5 classes I only have 1 professor and 4 T.A.'s. My coursework is so easy and I'm usually pretty bored with it. I'm hoping it will get more difficult as I get further along into college.

Campus Housing at Florida State University

C

Something Else.

Unless you get early admittance, DO NOT APPLY TO LIVE ON CAMPUS. You will end up stuck in a crappy dorm aka smith and kellum. I currently live in smith hall. Community bathrooms suck. Overall though it has not been a bad experience. Smith is very social and you actually have to avoid people if you are not wanting to make friends. The worst part about living on campus is no outdoor pool for tanning in the summer time! Best thing about my dorm is the proximity to all of my classes by far. Even so I will not live on campus ever again.

Overall Experience at Florida State University

B

It Grows on You

The weather is absolutely atrocious. However for the first time ever I have experienced the leaves changing which for a true Floridian is pretty awesome. There is ALWAYS tons of stuff going on on campus or close by and is usually free for students. Football games are incredible... and free which is even better. At first I absolutely hated it here but I've grown to like it. Most classes have a laid back feel and I'm never afraid to speak up if I don't understand something which can sometimes be intimidating. If I could do it all again I would still choose FSU but I would not choose to live on campus! With FSU being as big as it is there is something here for everyone, from LARPers to Greek life, the student body is very eclectic. Most students are very friendly and polite (holding doors, saying hello in elevators and the such.) I think the worst part about FSU is it's location in Tallahassee. Traffic sucks and the locals are downright scary!

Off-Campus Dining at Florida State University

A

They Have Everything

Any major chain restaurant you can think of, Tallahassee has it. Some are farther away than others but you can always find something good to eat. Jimmy Johns is the best and they deliver. Mellow mushroom is also fantastic!

Parking at Florida State University

C-

GAAAAAAAH

THERE ARE NEVER ANY SPOTS! Parking is atrocious. Usually I end up parking a 15 minute walk away from my dorm even though there is a big parking lot right behind it. Luckily you get a free parking decal and freshman can have there cars though. If you can't follow basic instructions, expect tickets. If you put your car in a spot, don't expect a ticket. If you don't have a car you will be fine, but I don't know what I would do with out mine. FSU students get free rides on the city bus system as well as our campus system so you can get around easily with out one. Plus most people have cars so you can easily find someone to take you somewhere if needed.

Scholarships at Florida State University

Problematic

We had issues and I almost received no financial aid money because my older sister marked one box wrong on her own taxes! My dad called every day for weeks straightening everything out for me.

Facilities at Florida State University

A+

Everything Is Giant

There are no small buildings here. In every direction there are expansive brick structures that are unbelievably beautiful. The gym is dated, but is a gym and works all the same. The libraries are 24 hours, expansive, and always bustling with people. The online catalog of books is available anywhere so you can research which books you need before heading to pick them up. We have our own concert venue/comedy club in the union which offers great events. Also if you live on campus each dorm will host a plethora of events from candy grams, to haunted houses, to an amazing race. Other notable things on campus are a movie theater, and bowling alley.
