Well Rounded but Limited

Both the English and English Education departments of Iowa State University have few resources due to budget cuts. However, I do not feel incredibly underprivileged compared to other departments at ISU. The workload is heavy for English Education because of the myriad of papers, portfolios, and experience we have have to demonstrate before we graduate. My program works hard to make sure students are prepared to teach others before they leave ISU as proficiently as possible. Yet, there are aspects of the program - portfolios, classes- that are redundant and less than useful. At such a large school it is extremely difficult to keep on track with an English Education program with all the material that needs to be read, the projects you need to complete, the skills one needs to demonstrate, and the different experiences that needs to be acquired. Administration has a difficult time with their limited funding and resources letting students know and helping them accomplish what they need to be doing to graduate.
