Off Campus Dining
Off campus dining at JHU is a B because Charles Village has an ordinance against fast food which is quick and affordable- two details that are important to college students. I would suspect however this helps to prevent some crime in the area. There is chipotle, ledo pizza, subway, university market, and some asian places that arent great either costwise or quality wise.

The Best in Academia
You will not find another school that is better at preparing you for future research or employment. JH has the study hard, then party hard attitude so keeping up during one's freshman year is definitely a challenge. Hopkins is ranked so highly among national universities because the coursework truly is more demanding than just about any school out there (even Harvard or Stanford). Grade deflation is a bitch here- you'll likely feel good about anything above a 3.0. Best undergrad biomedical engineering, public health, neuroscience, writing seminars, and international relations in the country.

Fraternities Run Nightlife
Great nightlife at this competitive top tier university. Fraternities will hold frequently have open parties on the weekends so all students can attend them (until the house is full). some will run you $5 at the door, and others will not. girls, however, will almost always get in free. Girls from Towson and Loyola University often attend JHU frat parties because they are so fun and welcoming. most parties will have dim to dark dancefloors downstairs and drinking games and socializing upstairs.

Freedom/ Independence
School policies regarding partying/ drinking are hardly enforced. A good thing too because if this were not the case, everyone would transfer because then JH would truly be ALL work and NO fun. Luckily, you can stumble around drunk on campus or in Charles Village without getting in trouble legally. However, drinking in the dorms is not allowed (although many people do it surreptitiously) and enforced by an RA. depending on the RA's level of strictness you may or may not want to risk this.

And you thought you were smart...
First, the admission percentage for the incoming class at JHU is 18%. I don't know where the 28% came from -- must have been 4 or 5 years ago.
JHU is not the school for everyone but the opportunities here are endless. Research positions are easy to find. Professors are accessible. Social opportunities are ample. The trick is to really have the mindset that to do well and enjoy your time here (which for the most part, go hand in hand), you should be studying when you have the chance. When you stay on top of your studies, you can enjoy visiting speakers, a night out at PJs or a fraternity party, or whatever else there is to do at jhu. If you plan (study) ahead of time, you'll do well and have fun when the best opportunities are there. If you squander your time, you will do poorly initially. Then you'll learn the hard way- but you'll get it in time. Stay motivated. Stay on top of work. College life is better that way at hopkins. The cram sesh all nighter might work at other universities, but not here. Best of luck!

NOT STRICT AT ALL.
There is no campus strictness. There is no religious affiliation at hopkins, so there are no weird rules about signing a "friend" (if you know what im saying) into the residence halls late at night. Condems are free for the taking at the health center. Security won't harass you no matter how drunk you decided to get on any given night (as long as you aren't destructive). The RA's are sometimes a problem- just don't play any loud drinking games in your room and you'll be fine... (i.e. FlIPCUP).
