Convenient at Times, Unnecessary at Times
So far at Wesleyan, I have seen people greatly benefit from having a car on campus (i.e. when it is raining), and I have seen people glad that they did not bring their cars to campus. Freshmen are allowed to have a car on campus, but I know very few who brought them for the first semester at Wesleyan. I do not have a car on campus, and I feel as though I have no need for one. The campus is easy to get around, and almost every location is within a short walking distance.

Tightly-Knit Communities, Different Atmospheres
I have been in every underclassman dorm, and can honestly say each housing option has a completely different feel to it. I am in Nicolson, and the hall that I'm on has already formed a bond as well as many friendly relationships. However, the lounge is not as active or social as in other dorms. In Clark and Fauver, the lounges and common rooms are kept lively and popular, and a more open, social atmosphere is prevalent. The dorm rooms themselves, however, are not as lovely as the two-room doubles in the Nics. Butterfields has its stigma for a reason, as it is clearly the less favorable option. Students who live there both resent the assignment but also embrace it, as a sort of "we got screwed" attitude brings them together. No matter where you live, it is still possible to get anywhere on campus relatively easily.

Underclassman = Don't Know Much Yet
As a freshman, I don't know much about the off-campus housing situation yet. I have heard nothing bad about the process or the selection, so I'm assuming it is reasonable.
