Health & Safety at Saint Joseph's University

A-

Technically Part of the City, but in a Great Neighborhood

I have never had any trouble with safety on campus, but it is important to remember that SJU is part of the city. Common sense is always a good companion. The Public Safety officials do their jobs well, but mostly stick to following up on complaints and serving as late-night escort drivers. The escort shuttles are great for getting to and from campus, especially when not living in one of the dorms after sophomore year. Most of the Public Safety guys are really great, especially if you maintain a pleasant and respectful attitude around them.

Diversity at Saint Joseph's University

D

In Its Defense, It Is a Catholic Institution

Even though student body sizes are growing with each incoming class, SJU doesn't seem to be getting much more diverse than three years ago. It could be that the Catholic side of it and the rising prominence of the business school attract a specific set of kids, but campus could definitely use a better mix all around.

Parking at Saint Joseph's University

F

Gooooood Luck!!

Once everyone gets into town, on-street parking is near about impossible. SJU recently finished its parking garage, only to get rid of a parking lot on campus in favor of turning it into a lawn that no one really ever uses.

Computers at Saint Joseph's University

C

Limited Space and Semi-Frequent Network Problems

Even though the old bookstore got renovated into a student activity center complete with another small-size computer lab, campus labs still get pretty crowded, especially during crunch times. Earlier this year there were tons of problems with the wireless network for the campus computers, but laptop WIFI always seemed to be working all right. When it comes down to it, if you know you're going to need a computer for work, bring your laptop along.
