Not all that many scholarship opportunities and most are entirely too competitive. I love UT, but the financial aid here is whack. They tried to give me less than I deserved so I did a formal appeal and they found me more grants and less loans. Overall, they'll find you enough to make sure you're able to attend, it's just that most of it will be loans if you're not in financial need.

that being said, do you have a job during the school year? if so, is it difficult to manage?

Yes, I have a job. I work at Gregory Gym. I've only worked there a short period of time now, but so far so good. You basically tell them how many hours you want to work. I figure that from now on, I'll have a job every semester.

what year are you?

I'm in my first year, but I'm technically a sophomore because of dual credit classes!

awesome! what are you majoring in (sorry for all the questions)

Nah, it's cool! Right now, I'm undeclared. I'm in Undergraduate Studies. But I'm (hopefully) going into the Comm school and majoring in Corporate Communications.

awesome! i applied for economics and international relations, but i heard that undergrad studies is a 3rd notstated major option for all that apply. is this true? and when can you transfer majors?

Yeah, it basically is. I got put in Undergrad Studies, I didn't choose it, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I didn't know what I wanted to do. I'm not sure how all majors work because every college is different, but for Comm you can apply at every semester. Some majors all you have to do is declare the major. Admissions would probably be more help than I would about Liberal Arts.

im probably going to be put in undergrad studies as well, which i agree-wouldnt be a bad thing, but how would you say your course load has been so far? and what organizations have you joined?

again, sorry for all the questions, i dont have very many older friends currently going to ut, so anyone who helps is awesome

My course load hasn't actually been too bad. I take 15 hours a semester and still manage to have free time. I honestly haven't gotten involved a whole lot so far. I wanted to just adapt to classes before I dove in head first. But I'm looking this semester to join service organizations!

are you planning on graduating early?

Actually I am! I'm on track to graduate a semester early, but I'm shooting for a whole year early. Not sure if that'll work out or not.

i hope to graduate a year early as well with my ap credits and save some $, but have you looked into summer school? i heard ut also offers credit by exam, are those difficult to come by?

UT has a broad spectrum of majors it offers. You can major in engineering, journalism, social work, women's studies, linguistics, advertising, accounting, acting, etc. There are over 100 possibilities for degrees. Many majors are highly competitive and hard to get into, though. The business school, college of communication, engineering, architecture, and some fine arts majors are fairly difficult to get into, just to name a few.

do you know if economics is a very selective major?

As far as I know, I don't think it is. The college of Liberal Arts is rumored to be the college that has the highest acceptance rate. Although there are some majors within LA that are competitive like Psychology. I don't recall economics being one of them.

University of Texas - Austin Facilities was reviewed by kalikalikali

UT has amazing facilities on campus. We have great gyms, libraries, study lounges, places to eat, and infrastructure across campus that is really geared toward students. Everything is very convenient and welcoming.

can you tell me more about the athletics facilities and cost to use them?

Sure! The gyms are free to use because it already comes with your tuition. They're really nice and provide a fit atmosphere. There are cardio machines, swimming pools, a running track, etc in Gregory Gym (which is the largest one) There is also the Rec center, Anna Hiss gym (never been), and Belmont (never been, but I heard practically no one knows about it.)

impressive. do you often have awkward encounters with people you know at these gyms? also, do you happen to know anything about the ut running club?

also, random but what are you majoring in?

I'm curious about the running club too! & are there trails to go running on on campus, or do you just kinda go for it?

just found the running club website here: http://studentorgs.utexas.edu/marathon/

looks like theyve got routes with and without hills.

but are you going to be an incoming freshman next year as well? maybe ill get to meet you if we both join!

I don't usually have awkward encounters. It's a little more awkward for me now because I work at Gregory, but people are basically there to work out and they don't really pay much attention to what you're doing. And I'm undeclared right now, but I'm going into Corporate Communication (hopefully). But yeah, there's a running club. I don't know much about what routes they run or how far. But a lot of people just run around the campus. There's also a track outside San Jacinto dorm and a running track in Gregory Gym. I usually run on one of those two.

University of Texas - Austin Athletics was reviewed by kalikalikali

The athletics here are great. I'm a big football fan and I have season tickets to all the home games. They make it pretty affordable for students. The other athletic teams are great too. Our volleyball, basketball, and golf teams are good just to name a few. The athletics here really play a big role in spirit on campus. It's definitely one of my favorite aspects.

University of Texas - Austin Parking was reviewed by kalikalikali

Parking is absolutely absurd. The prices are really high to be able to park in a garage, and the garages are not very convenient. Also, on home football game days, you have to more your car out of the garages and on to a specified lot. Which, by the way, are not close. I didn't even bring a car this year for this year. The streets are so packed with students, you really can't drive your car through the campus anyway.

University of Texas - Austin Campus Strictness was reviewed by kalikalikali

The campus definitely has policies, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of enforcement. UT has it's own police system, but they're often patrolling. As long as a student is not putting him/herself or others in danger, their actions are often ignored. I've seen drunk people walking around campus and police don't stop them or anything. The main key is to be discreet and not act crazy.

University of Texas - Austin Transportation was reviewed by kalikalikali

It transportation isn't bad. It's sticks to a pretty regular schedule and it can be handy. It's not that great if you're on a tight schedule to get somewhere. If you don't feel like walking, it's fine, but if you need to be somewhere by a certain time it's definitely better to walk. The buses are often crowded and it makes tons of stops, so it takes a while to get where you're going.

University of Texas - Austin Campus Dining was reviewed by kalikalikali

There are several options. The problem is that some of them are kind of spread out. If you live on the North side of campus, you don't have as many options unless you want to eat off campus. The food is pretty good. The menu's rarely change, so sometimes it gets fairly old. There are also a few fast food options on campus like Wendy's, Chick-Fil-A, Taco Cabana, and more.
