Local Culture

Harrisonburg is very committed to supporting local buisnesses! That's what I love about it. There's a farmers market at least once every week, and a brand new co-op grocery store that stocks only local and organically grown items! JMU is lucky to be located in a place that accepts and welcomes students so much!

Public Health

As I've recently change my major to public health, I can't say too much about it. The process of switching majors, however, is very easy and everyone was very helpful when going about doing this. The public health major is listed under Health Sciences, which is a vast field at JMU. Most of your classes take place in a very new, amazing building called ISAT. The program is simple and straightforward. The classes help you not only learn the material, but experience it as well as there is a required internship at the end of your 4 years. The good thing about this internship is that they make it fit into your last semester, so you don't have to spend extra time or money during the summer or spend an extra semester at JMU!

Resume

I'd say the most important thing was having an adequate resume that exemplified your capabilities. Getting that looked over by other people and turning that in with your application is important. JMU offers tons and tons of classes on resume building as well as resume workshops where you can just have some people look over your resume!
