Residential Area
Puget Sound is in a nice, residential area of town. There are plenty of cool houses to choose from, but the ones closest to campus get spoken for early on, so be sure to jump on that early in the spring semester.
Renting a house with a few friends tends to be a lot cheaper than on-campus housing. Most students move off campus starting sophomore year.

Tacoma Is Diverse, Puget Sound Is Still White
Tacoma has sizeable communities of blacks, Asians, Indians, rich, GLBT, poor, working-class, etc. The University of Puget Sound has remained a mostly white bubble in the middle of such a diverse community. People are generally accepting, but they oftentimes don't recognize their own ignorance in relation to their understanding of people different from themselves.
