Somewhat Safe
Because of its location, there is a lot of crime in Seattle, especially near the campus (and even on campus sometimes). However, the police department does an excellent job of sending out both alert texts and e-mails so students know when to stay indoors.

Eating on the Ave
The Ave (University Way) is right on the edge of campus and offers a great variety of different restaurants for dining out. There is anything from an Irish pub, to authentic Thai cuisine, to teriyaki and other Asian foods, to Chipotle and local Mexican grills, to frozen yogurt, to lots of coffee shops. Whatever you're craving, you can find it on the Ave. Prices are often average, with some very cheap exceptions (a plate of Pad Thai for $5.99 at Banana Leaf!)

Greeks Are Still Geeks
The Greek system at UW is pretty big and well-known, but the Greeks don't rule the school. On average, it's hard to tell who's Greek and who isn't (unless they're wearing their fraternity/sorority gear). Everyone on campus blends in well and there are only a select few who flaunt their Greek status like a badge of honor.
