Off-Campus Dining at Texas A&M University

A

You Want It? You Got It!

Being a transfer to A&M University, I needed to find my way around fast since my friends already knew the area pretty well. Living off campus, I had to find affordable off campus dining for all of my cravings. I am also a very health conscious eater and I love knowing what I'm eating and how it is cooked. College Station/Bryan provided very affordable and suitable places for this. My all-time favorites have to include, How do you roll, a do-it-yourself sushi place, it's around 8-10 dollars for a very fillings meal and you get a discount for being a "first time roller" or after games my girlfriends and I would go and get a free Miso soup. My favorite Chinese takeout, which is extremely fast and delivers for free is Tjin China Diner. It is very affordable for what you get and extremely convenient. They have a very great variety of Asian foods and have vegetarian dishes. Sweet Eugene's is also a very great coffee shop. I like going there after church and have talks with my friends. It is a wonderful environment and excellently priced. They have less sugar in their coffee than the typical Starbucks so that's always a plus. For a quick fast burger, Fat burger has the biggest and juiciest burgers, it's located right by A plus tutoring, which is very popular for tutoring and very helpful. So before a lot of two hour long tutoring sessions, I've seen many people go into Fat Burger and come out satisfied. I don't really eat burgers so I can't explain to you how great it is, this is solely off of my friends opinions. For date nights, Cafe Capri and anything located on Harvey is an excellent choice. They have a really great environment and it's pretty well priced for you and your significant other to enjoy. When your parents come in town, for ring day, and for special occasions, Christopher's in an excellent place to dine. They have the best wines, steaks, and they continue to add to their menu. It is pricey but definitely worth it for the quality and special occasions. Overall, College Station has a lot of variety and have a lot of places open for late night runs after all night cram sessions. I am pleased with the options that this town provides for me.

Greek Life at Texas A&M University

B-

Aggies Going Greek

Personally, transferring from a really big greek school to A&M was a big transition. Aside from that, this past year, greek life had it's most "rushing" than any other school recorded for that year. I am greek and noticed there is difference though. It is not a separate large entity like it was at my previous school and other schools alike. But greek life does provide opportunities to expand your connections, meet new people, engage in community service opportunities, and be a part of something (A&M's classic motto). It is not necessarily the biggest thing on A&M's campus since there are hundreds of professional driven programs, freshman and sophomore leadership organizations, ethnic groups, religious and spiritual organizations. You don't necessarily need to go greek, but it is another way to find yourself in such a large university. Everyone I have met that is greek as well has been a part of other organizations and love each organization equally. I am not denouncing or supporting greek life. It is up to you to decide what you want to do either way Greek Life or other A&M organizations will allow you to explore friendships and different opportunities at A&M University.

Majors at Texas A&M University

B+

The Beginning Step

Choosing a major is a very difficult process. Many switch their majors, many switch their majors twice. Although there are many choices a lot of "schools" and majors have restrictions on total hours and what classes need to be taken before entering their program. It is relatively easy to get into the Liberal Arts school and extremely hard to get into May's College School of Business and the Dwight D. Look Engineering school. Engineering and Business are very popular majors here and are very strenuous on scheduling and workload. I am a Pre-Med major and Biomedical Sciences has a very heavy workload as well. It is rewarding to receive a high GPA in such hard classes though. The advisors in each school are very helpful in getting you to graduate on time and what classes are relevant and are needed for your major.
