Although the website says you only need a 3.0 to be considered as a transfer student, what is a realistic college GPA that will most likely get you in at UW-Madison?

How easy would it be to make friends here as a sophomore standing spring transfer student? How hard is it to find on campus housing for just spring semester?

What are the advantages to attending edgewood over UW madison?

you get the benefits of small class sizes and teacher to student. You get to know your professors really well and they take effort to get to know you as well.Depending on your major, the advising is good and the professors are great. I am an art therapy major and I have yet to have a bad professor. Basically you get all of the advantages of a small college, but still get to be in a larger city.

You get to be right in the same area of the UW Madison campus life, while getting the education that a private school offers with small classes, everything you need in one spot, one-on-one relationships with your professors and advisors, and so on.

The advantages are that the class sizes are ten times smaller which is beneficial because than your teachers get to know you, and are better able to help and notice your needs.

It is much smaller. Much better access to teachers, help, and support. The student/teacher ratio is very small. I am not the type of person who does well in huge lecture halls.

It is a smaller campus which means LESS WALKING TIME!

It is a smaller campus. You are still in Madison and can still attend much of what goes on around campus. You get more one on one attention

Edgewood College Local Atmosphere had a new discussion posted by katrocious

Is it weird that this college is located right next to edgewood high school? Do you ever have classes, events, or anything in the high school building?

you hardly notice the high school kids, you might see them occasionally in the science building, but I've never had any real interactions with them. You'll never have classes or events in the high school, but they do take classes sometimes at the college science building.

There is an entire campus of grades starting with Kindergarten, elementary, highschool all located next to the college.

Yes it's weird. Once in a while you will see young kinds come into the science building. None of my classes have ever been in the high school building.

It does seem wierd. I haven't done anything at the high school but the high school students do use our facilities. They currently have their artwork displayed in our art building.

Nope. You only see the children sometimes when you are walking to class, otherwise it doesn't even phase me.

How easy is it to get involved in clubs at UW stout? Do they have a club fair at the beginning of the year where you can find out about a lot of clubs all at once? Or do you kind of have to go out of your way to get involved?

There's a backyard bash that allows students to see what clubs are available and what each would involve pretty much. Very easy to get involved with clubs.

They do have a club fair at the beginning of each semester making it extremely easy to find a perfect fit for anyone that wants to get involoved.

We have three different fairs to get involved, and a newly renovated Involvement Center. We also have online sign up which makes it really easy.

I am debating on transferring to either uw-stout or uw-oshkosh next year, for either graphic communications management at stout or visual journalism at oshkosh. Which school is better and why?

Stout is great if looking for a smaller more quaint setting

I would say UW-Stout...I am not in the graphic communications management major but from what my friends and others have said it is a top notch program.

My roommate is in graphic communications management and she seems to enjoy it.

University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh Nightlife had a new discussion posted by katrocious

I am looking at transferring to UWO because of the advertising program, but my friends and family can't get over it's trashy reputation. Can you have an enjoyable experience here if you aren't that into partying or hooking up?

Dear Katrocious,

I am starting at Oshkosh this Fall. I did not want to be in the partying situation as well. I decided to live off campus in off campus housing. It will be helpful to me to avoid it since I don't have to deal with as many people. I'll either be working or on campus all day so I don't have to deal with it. Partying is the one thing I'm trying to avoid so I can finish my degree.

Oh man, so it's tough to avoid it unless you live off campus? I really do want to live in the dorms, get involved in clubs & band and make some good friends who are okay with the occasional partying but nothing obnoxious

Just because some say the school is a "party" school does not mean you should not go to it. The campus has a high image for success for their students. No matter where you go there will be some sort of "party types". It's your choice who you want to hang out with, no one can force you. I am very excited to start at Oshkosh soon and am ready to finish up my degree & meet new people and find new friends!

Yes, we have a fantastic success rate among graduates. There are also many fun alternatives to partying here! There's a student-run program called Party-point-O where they party without alcohol on weekend nights and its super fun!

Of course you can! I did not even know UWO had such a rep.

I am not a partier and I don't hook up with people and there are plenty of people who are the same way. You can still have fun. I hangout with my friends who also don't party at all and we have fun just hanging in our dorm rooms by playing cards or Apples to Apples. Also, we go play Racquetball which is also a very fun thing to do. So yes, you can have an enjoyable experience here if you aren't into partying or hooking up.

Yes, I don't party or drink and i still have a great time.

Yes, in recent years the reputation of UW Oshkosh has become less apparent. It is growing to be a fine place of education and a place to meet a wide range of new people.

Absolutely! There are plenty of fun things to do on campus and in the city of Oshkosh without partying or hooking up! i know lots of people who don't do that!

I don't think the reputation is very trashy- we can't be judged on a couple stories. I am a very serious honors student with national recognition and a 3.7 GPA, in addition to being very involved on campus and still having plenty of fun. There might be plenty of partying here, but there's also plenty of studying. I assure you there are tons of students just like you! :)

Absolutely! There are a bunch of clubs and activities to do. It is a beautiful campus and I love it here! Consider going Greek as well. They will keep you busy and are not the typical partiers

yess! my dorm (south scott) has an honors floor and all they do is play there violins, and trumpets and play pokemon. not EVERYONE goes out and gets wasted every night.

I know plenty of people that don't go out and party a lot. Its just a reputation. Your college experience is what you make of it and shouldn't matter about how others see it.

Yes

Any where you go is going to be what you make it. And if you truly want to go to UWO you can explain to your family it is better than its reputation.

You can absolutely have an enjoyable experience. Just look for like minded friends to associate with and work hard at your studies.

Yes you can. I haven't been to a single party, and I hang out with friends who don't party. Cru is a very good organization to get involved in. It emphasizes staying away from the party scene and finding a higher power.

I am not into partying either and I know the school sounds trashy because it's known as "sloshkosh." People really do give it that name, but I do not have any problems for not drinking.

Winona State University had a new discussion posted by katrocious

I'm a freshman and Considering transferring to Winona because of the photojournalism major, and I am not happy at my current college. It is a "suitcase college", almost everybody goes home from friday-sunday. Also a lot of people came here with their closest pack of friends from high school and it's kind of cliquey. Basically, I am wondering what the social life is like at WSU, also how is the band/pep band program?

Most students at WSU stay on campus. I hear the band program is a great social asset.

Most people seem to be far enough away from home to just stay in Winona. People are friendly and open, doesn't seem very cliquey. I haven't been able to join band yet because it always clashes with my schedule, but it sounds great...

Winona is very diverse. There is a lot of international students, athletes, and a bunch of people in between. The band program from what I hear is really good, but all i really know is that the choir program is good.

It is similar to your experience the college population drops drastically during the weekends and is very cliquey.

I don't know about the band/pep band program, but I would highly recomend transfering to Winona. I love it here and I knew hardly anyone when I came. I made a bunch of new friends right away.

A-

I have never had an issue with computers. There are always plenty open. Printing gets kind of pricey and sometimes the internet goes down in the dorms.

B+

Very nice dorms and you get your own bathroom. The trads aren't the nicest quality, but a lot better than living in a dorm. Socially, people in my specific building don't interact much unless they are in the same group of friends.
