How much does the ACT writing section count for?

I think it is its own section so most likely 1/5 but it's looked at separately I believe.

1-36

I'm touring USC soon, what are some good places to eat and visit in Columbia close to campus?

The Gourmet Shop in the Five Points area is so delicious!! You must have their brie sandwiches. The River Walk nearby is also beautiful to visit.

We enjoyed the Liberty Tap Room and Mellow Mushroom in "the Vista" area of town.

USC has a California Dreaming located few blocks from Campus.

What looks better on an application, NC Governors School or Tar Heel Girl's state ?

I went to NC Governors School East in 2011. This one is a no-brainer. There a numerous alumnus who go to UNC Chapel Hill and I can bet you, along with me, they would all say NC Governors School.

Well that is what I'm hoping for! Now I just have to get in!

Can anyone that got accepted tell me what percentile college prowler says they are vs the people accepted and attending? Like the chart when you look at your schools

I was in the 48th percentile and got accepted.

A lot of people ask about this and I just read that 50% of instate applicants got in and 15% of out of state applicants got in last year. 26% total

yes it is very hard to get in out of state to UNC

An admissions director told me the majority of what they look at are the amount of challenging courses taken and the grade you get in that class. How acurate is this? If you were accepted how many B's or C's did you get? and in what classes?

I can't say for sure, but most of the people I know who got in, including myself, took every challenging course available and received straight A's. However, this isn't set in stone; for instance, if you've taken many AP/IB courses and received a B or two, they will definitely take into consideration the difficulty of these courses.

What if you've taken 15 AP courses got A's in all of them but got B's in Pre-AP classes?

I think you'll be perfectly fine then! Admissions simply wants to know that you've challenged yourself while still maintaining reasonable grades.

I'm out of state, have taken all honors and 6 AP courses, only got one B during high school, and got denied. Good luck!

If I applied early action how much would my senior year grades matter?

They still matter as much as your grades from jr year. Even if you've been admitted they look at them and if they are all bad they can still say no.

How much does your unweighted GPA matter? I have a low unweighted (3.79) but a high 4.75 weighted with average SAT score

You're fine. I was in a similar range as you, 3.84 UW, 4.62 W, I wouldn't worry about it. What matters more to Wake is class rank, because it shows a lot about the rigor of your school, and if 4.75 puts you as your valedictorian that's a good thing, if 4.75 puts you middle of the pack, less good. All in perspective. Top 10% is key though not always a deal breaker, I think that 82% of WFU (previous year) incoming freshman were top 10% and the number is rising.

Unweighted GPA is not that important. What's more important is class rank and percentile. You don't even have to submit SAT scores until after you've been accepted, if you don't want to.
