Lack of Local Atmosphere at W&J
There is really not much of a local atmosphere outside the immediate campus. It's not entirely the school's fault -- the city of Washington is simply lacking in attractions and activities; it's basically a deadbeat small town. Besides a minimal amount of shops and restaurants, there isn't really much to do around town in terms of cultural events or sports. The "townies" are rather creepy but the usually stay off campus. Students usually go to Pitt or CMU, which are about an hour away, or to downtown Pittsburgh to enjoy nightlife or have fun of any kind.

Frat Parties
The majority of nightlife at W&J is at the 6 fraternity houses. They usually have great themed parties. Though these are fun, you start to feel how small the school is really fast, and these can get boring rather quickly. There are local bars for the over 21 students but these, too, are rather shady and not very entertaining.

Security Is Lax
Security officers are very helpful and lenient towards students. However if you end up going to the hospital due to something alcohol related the repercussions are severe. You are required to attend alcohol training if you're under 21 and the frat house you were at is placed on probation. However the officers are very kind. I've seen security vans driving around with many girls piled up in them.

Totally Safe
Very safe. I have never felt uncomfortable on campus, and have even walked places by myself at 3 a.m. -- not that I'm advocating doing so, but I do feel comfortable and safe enough to do so. Security is serious about their work and are willing to walk with us at any time of day or night if we request.

Alright
There are a lot of little eateries around campus and also a good number of chain restaurants. Many of them offer student discounts or special student deals on certain nights. Various restaurants also have W&J trivia nights to encourage students to come out to visit them. I've also contacted many of the local eateries for donations to fundraisers we have on campus and they are really friendly and generous! It's great.
