Awesome City
New Orleans is filled with opportunities to get involved in the community. There are museums, parks, the night-life is incredible, the zoo is great, we're on the Mississippi River, too much to name.

So-So
On campus dining isn't really the best around. Bruff (the cafeteria) is not very good, and the workers are typically very rude to the students. The student union (LBC) has a few different little restaurants, but it is very expensive and gets mundane very quickly. Staff is pretty rude there too. We can use our student money at Loyola's campus which is kind of nice. Also Le Gourmet at Tulane and La Divinera at Loyola are both really good, but kind of pricey.

Not That Great
Our football team isn't very good, and people typically don't care about the athletics. The majority of people are way more concerned with academics and social life than football. Pretty atypical for the South, but honestly a big plus in my opinion. Who needs a winning football team when you have a killer science department?

Great Academics
Disclaimer: I'm a Cell and Molecular bio major, so I don't really know about the other departments. My department is filled with brilliant teachers who (for the most part) care about their students' success. If you're looking for a college that gives half the class A's and the other half B's, don't come here. Most classes either aren't curved (higher level classes anyway) or are curved so that only 15 or 20% get A's. I got B's in most of my classes even though I worked really hard. Still, I feel like my undergrad education has amply prepared me for medical school, and I'm thrilled to have attended such a great school.

Horrible
Only place to part during class time is in the Diboll parking garage on the very back end of campus farthest away from the academic buildings. Side street parking is an option, but it's often hard to find a place, and there is a two hour limit (meter maids love to lurk around campus side streets and give out $20 parking tickets). Scott Cowen (university president) adamantly opposed to building additional parking. On top of all of this, yearly parking permits are about $550-650 depending on if you commute or are a resident. Freshman cannot have cars.

Used to Be Great, Dunno About That Anymore
They used to give almost everyone a scholarship when I was admitted, but I hear they are getting more stingy as more and more people are applying to Tulane. Personally, I got the Dean's Honor Scholarship which covers 100% tuition. They give that out to 100 applicants a year. I still end up paying around $5000 a year in various fees and books, but it's nice to know I won't have any loans. Most of my friends got the presidential scholarship which I think covers around $20000 a year.
