Off-Campus Dining
Directly off-campus there are a very wide variety of dining options ranging from the usual fast food chains of Dairy Queen, McDonalds and Subway to small Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese places. One of the most popular places is Annie's Parlour which is especially well known for their incredible hamburgers and malts. Most of the off-campus options are fairly reasonable and the portions are large enough to take home for a later meal. The best place for restaurants would most likely be in Dinkytown with Loring Pasta Bar and a very wide variety of eats but Washington Avenue is where you can find all the regulars!

Campus Housing
As a personal opinion I really like the Middlebrook dorm for on-campus housing. It's a little bit out of the way, but it's much quieter and each floor has its own social, tv and study lounges along with private bathrooms. Usually it's filled with the arts, honors and international students. The Superblock is definitely the place to be if you are looking for a louder scene and more of the usual college dorm with community bathrooms and such. The apartments are pretty spendy and you don't get much for what you could be getting for the same price off-campus, in my opinion.

Greek Life
The Greek life really isn't too big of a deal at the University of Minnesota. They seem to have a pretty large presence on campus with "Frat Row Housing" and many different sororities and fraternities, but there are many other clubs that more people get involved in. I would say mostly the Greek life is known for the social atmosphere and their parties.
