Relatively Safe
I've never felt threatened on Iowa's campus. It is large campus, and you never know who you'll encounter. I don't recommend walking alone at night since it is a big campus. Also, the police are eager to bust any parties, so keep it quiet and safe!

Pretty Decent
I came to Iowa to study pre-med and Spanish. Well, let's just say they don't call them "weed-out" classes for nothing. Some of their gen-ed classes are tough, so be prepared to work hard. Even Spanish, which usually came to me pretty easily, wasn't a walk in the park. However, the TA's are awesome and are available to help out, as long as you go to them, they won't come to you.

Available, but Work Fast
There are many off-campus housing options, but if you're looking for an apartment, sign up fast! It seems like everyone is looking for a place to live and there's only so many people who are leasing out their apartment. The general rule is to sign a lease before winter break. Also, parking can be an issue.
