Apartments/Group Houses
Upperclassmen aren't guaranteed housing in dormitories on campus, but there are always plenty of options. Many students choose to get an apartment (not owned by the university), or rent a house with their friends. There are many apartment buildings and houses within two blocks of campus in safe areas, and the rent is extremely affordable if you split it among friends. Just make sure you start looking as early as possible - the best ones fill up very quickly.

Frats or Downtown
The frat life at Hopkins isn't that great, but there's always a party somewhere if you know the right people. For those that aren't happy with the (dude-heavy) frat parties, however, the clubs in Baltimore are great if you're willing to drop the money. There are a LOT of formals, so if you're involved in Greek life or happen to be in with a lot of the brothers or sisters, you can get used to the idea of open bars.

Great Shuttle System
Hopkins revamped their transportation system just this year. There are now multiple shuttles with different preset routes, and their exact location and predicted times are available via GPS online. There are also free vans that you can call after 10 pm supposedly, but I've heard that they either take forever or don't show up at all. Cab fair is cheap too.
