Safe If You're Careful
I don't have a problem walking around campus by myself, even alone at night, but there's a significant amount of crime (date rape, theft, vandalism) that goes on, and the police don't or can't do very much about it. They respond when you have a problem or if you are in danger, but it often takes a lot of time and effort on your part to get to an acceptable level of safety. Bottom line, keep your doors locked and only go out with people you trust.

Really Pretty!!!
The campus is absolutely gorgeous! There are five libraries, an amazing gym with everything you could ever need to work out, a recently renovated University Center, and multiple dining halls and places to eat. There's a lake for looking and a pool for swimming, wildlife all around, and it's a wonderful place to be.

Dorms Alright
The dorms at UM are pretty standard, cinderblock and rooms on the small side, what you'd expect. Upperclassmen have the option to live in on-campus apartments, and they're really nice. It's extremely competitive to get on-campus housing, so if you want to live on campus, put your deposit down as soon as you can. Otherwise, rent can be above $1000 a month, or you're stuck on a waiting list living in the Holiday Inn.
