Great Place to Grow
Linfield is a place to find yourself and grow with friends who are of similar focus as you are. You can experience the party side of college while having the feeling that you matter to staff due to the smaller class sizes, you are not just a number at Linfield

Almost Too Good
Last year the school got a new head of safety and he has really changed things, both good and bad. As a member of the greek system, the heightened security has created some problems for us because they would automatically call the local police. However, we now work very closely with security to ensure that an situation is handled in a way that helps everyone involved rather to jumping straight to the worst case scenario. We has created what is known as the Greek Safety Patrol as a first round warning system. If GSP sees something that we feel is unsafe or could potential cause a problem we provide the warning before calling security; however if the situation does not improve then security gets involved. It was a great mediator between both systems. Also the new head of security is very interested in student opinion. Last spring there was a discussion whether or not to close the dorms to everyone but the residents. This sparked some controversy because we are such a small, close knit campus. Students did not want to be shut out from visiting the other dorms. The head of security wanted the students opinions on it and what could be an alternative solution to provide the safest situation for everyone. I have come to respect what he does simply because he took the time to hold discussions with students and to listen to us. I have always felt safe on campus but it is nice to know that they are truly interested in our concerns.

YUM!
There is a lot of good food around campus! 3rd Street provides some of the coolest places to shop and eat! One favorite on 3rd street is Golden Valley Brewery, or GVB. Every Saturday after a football game, GVB is the place to be! Good food and good beer! Happy hour at GVB is good too!!! Another student favorite is Muchas Gracias which is open 24 hrs a day! Most places provide a student discount (like a free Linfield soda at Muchas). The school actually provided everyone with a magnate telling us where and what discounts we can get! There is a lot of diverse cuisines in McMinnville as well, from French to Mexican to Sushi, its all very very very good! Plus Portland and Salem are close enough to go to for a nice dinner out as well!

The Greeks, Freaks and Athletes
There are three categories I would divide the Linfield student body into...the Greeks, Freaks, and Athletes. Granted many of these categories overlap....for example I am Greek and an Athlete. However for the most part I feel most people fall into one of these groups. A lot of the Greeks and Athletes can be stuck up and snobby...both guys and girls. But at the same time some of the nicest people are the Greeks and Athletes. The "Freaks" are very nice as well...most people on campus are, but they tend to stick together and do their own thing. As for the "hottness" level of people...a lot of the girls think they are hotter than they are at least compared to state school standards. The guys can be the same way. This is especially true if you hang out in more the party scene crowd. Since McMinnville is kinda small there isnt much to do unless you are 21 and go to the bars so there is at least a couple parties happening every weekend. They are usually at the Fraternities but there are the well known party houses of campus as well. As for relationships...Linfield is is such a small school it can feel like high school again where everyone knows everyone's business. So dating/hooking up can be interesting b/c everyone will know! Most of my girl friends have "given up" on finding a good guy at Linfield because the good ones are already taken. lol. Overall though Linfield has some great people!!! It is very easy to meet and get to know people since you see them all the time! Unlike a big campus you feel like you actually know the people you go to school with.

Nice but Can Be Annoying
The labs on campus are nice but don't rely on them if you need to print something quick before class because they can get crowded during the day. Also, the network can really make you mad at times, especially if you have a PC. Clean Access, which is the protection software you have to download for PCs, is super annoying because half the time it's not working. You either need to update it or it just doesn't feel like working that day. Other than that, the Internet is fast and it's all wireless, which is nice, but Clean Access sucks!

Beautiful Campus
Over all the campus is beautiful. All the buildings are brick and look like they belong on the east coast not in Oregon. The athletic facilities are amazing..the basketball gym is gorgeous and every things else is kept in great condition. The only facility that needs some serious work is the gym. It is way too small and the equipment needs some serious updating. It works but it is nothing compared to some gyms at other schools. Apparently they are set to build a new one but nothing has been started yet. The library is new and super nice! In my opinion I think its pretty big for a small school. I just wish they had more private study rooms b/c the ones they have fill up fast!

Very Convenient
The campus is so small that everything is within a 10 minute walk, but eventually you will even complain that thats too far lol. The best dorms on campus for sophomores are Terrel and Elkington, they are only like 4 or 5 years old and super nice. For freshman I think the best dorm is Mahaffey b/c its the biggest and allows you to meet the most people. As for upper class men...the HP's are the place to live. They are on campus apartments in which there is a living room, a kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a washer and dryer. Living in the HP's is much cheaper and way more convenient than living off campus!
