Health & Safety at Arizona State University

I Feel Safe at ASU

I feel safe at ASU's Tempe campus. I often see police patrolling the campus and also nearby, patrolling the streets that surround it. ASU, as I'm sure other universities, offers students the ability to receive text messages if and when possible danger is present.

I remember two years ago when the Memorial Union, a central location for student dining and activity, caught fire and the whole building had to be evacuated. The fire department arrived immediately and students and employees were evacuated in an efficient and easy manner. No one was hurt.

Greek Life at Arizona State University

Greek Life at ASU

I am not in a fraternity nor have I ever rushed, however my roommate Freshman year joined a fraternity and I have many other friends who are apart of the fraternities and sororities on campus.

From what I know it seems that almost every fraternity/sorority had a house or living area on campus or extremely close to it. Greek students seem to always encourage non-Greeks to rush and are very enthusiastic about their affiliation.

ASU Greek life conducts a lot of philanthropy events.

ASU: Real Life Issues

ASU offers great semester abroad programs, as I am sure many other universities do as well.

However, in the past few years ASU's School of Journalism has reached out to report contentious issues important to our Nation's security, specifically our Nation's borders and specifically the borders of Arizona.

With Arizona sharing borders with Mexico, The School of Journalism lead expeditions to Mexico to document, with photos and video, the impact the border has on families and on the state of Arizona.

Also, being the Film and Media Studies Major that I am, I am always impressed by the guest lectures and events the school puts on.

Last semester we were visited by Daniel Harkins, owner of Harkins Theaters, Phil Rosenthal, creator of "Everybody Loves Raymond", The Marketing Executive of Disney, and many other names in the business of film and media.

The lectures and presentations were and are always inspiring and I am so thankful for them. It is great to be able to ask questions to people who are in the business who have experience and knowledge.
