My First Quarter at UCSD

Once I got out of high school I attended Grossmont Community College for two years. I wanted to follow my dreams of becoming a dentist and so I transferred to UCSD. My first fall quarter was very difficult for me because it's a large campus and there is so much to do, and to look at. Luckily, the advising team of Thurgood Marshall college helped me find my path to success. I have come to UCSD for an environmental systems degree, and the professors have been very helpful. Taking sixteen units is very difficult, but when you study in the Giesel library you can still get your work done. Before and after going to classes, I make sure to read though the section of the day, go to office hours, talk to TA's and find study groups.

Diversity at University of California - San Diego

Lots of Asians

Although UCSD is a diverse school, where many come to get an excellent education. When I look around I see very few white and native americans as most students come from all over the world, especially asian countries. Acceptance for non-white residents was made as fair as possible for diverse backgrounds, beliefs, religions and sex. It seems there is no bias when admitting students.

Transportation at University of California - San Diego

Shuttles Are the Easiest Option

Even though you buy a parking permit, there is never a guarantee that you will actually find parking. Parking is a joke at UCSD because they have graduate and staff parking lots close to the school and student parking takes up a small fraction of a lot on-campus. Student parking lots are kept further away and they are inconvenient to walk to. Fortunately, shuttles run from those parking lots and even to where students park off campus. There is no cost for these convenient shuttles, they run early in the morning and late in the night.
