Great Restaurants, Great Variety
So many good choices! The Feve, Aladdin's, Magpie, Black River, etc. Always a lot of vegetarian options, and many restaurants have a pretty good selection of vegan options too. For such a tiny town, it's really good.

Eh...It Depends on Where You Live
OK, so some of the dorms are awesome. Talcott has walk-in closets, huge windows, large spacious rooms with high ceilings, but you have to be a junior or senior to have a good shot of living there, and even then, getting a single is very very difficult. Burton has good closet space and high ceilings, and it's newly renovated with flat-screen TV's. Kahn is a pretty good first year dorm, newly built, but there are a lot of complaints about it being "fake environmentally friendly" And then there's just your run of the mill dorms: North, South, East. The only really good part about them is the doubles are divided, so you essentially have your own room even when you have a roommate.

Somewhat Strict
I don't really know...as long as you're not stupid enough to fail your classes or leave alcohol and drugs in plain sight when you know your room is going to be inspected (about once a semester), then you're fine. They don't really care too much.

It's There for You If You Want It, It's Not There If You Don't
There's virtually no pressure either way. If you want to drink or smoke pot, fine. If you don't, that's fine too. In terms of policy enforcement, just be smart. Don't leave it in the open in your room, and be careful where you smoke.

Great Instructors, but It's Not the Best Program
I'm one of those few French majors. It's a very small department. Some of the professors are incredible, but the program is limited. The courses focus mostly on literature. There are no courses on culture, history, etc. that I feel are really important to know as a French major. I couldn't tell you the first thing about the French Revolution...and it's my senior year.

No Transportation
So, there's no transportation. The good news is everything you need at Oberlin is within walking distance. There is no clear distinction between college and town, and you can easily walk from one to the other within a matter of minutes. But, if you ever want to leave Oberlin, it's very difficult. You need to rely either on your own car, friends with cars, or classifieds ads on the school website.

It's Ohio
It's Ohio and it's near Lake Eerie, so it's to be expected that it snows a lot here and it's brutally cold in the winter. But then again, classes are a minute walk away. And, we have all of January off to do a project, so you could seek shelter in Mexico or Florida for a month.
