The ID Program at Georgia Tech is challenging and interesting. Students take a 4-5 hour long studio class 3 times weekly where they develop skills in sketching, modeling, CAD software, and prototyping. The facilities are pretty advanced, with students having access to lasercutters as well as a 24 hour design shop. Even further within the design shop is the wood shop which includes the machinery to prototype almost all basic student projects. It is however difficult to intern or co-op during the year because of the rigor and involvement of the program. Most students elect to intern during the summer.

Safety on Campus at GT
I'm not going to lie; our campus is in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Stray outside of campus, even during the daytime, and it's best that you keep your guard up. However, we like to call Tech a "bubble" because the inside of the campus feels very safe and we have a large amount of armed forces that patrol the campus through all hours of the night. I have walked back from the library in the wee hours of the morning numerous times and I've never felt endangered. We also have resources like the Stingerette, which is a van that responds to a call-in reservation you can make starting around 7pm and ending around 7am. Do be careful with your belongings (occasionally stray criminals make their way onto campus) and always walk in well-lit areas, keep your head high and your eyes aware. Make sure someone knows where you are (roommate, classmate, etc.) because you can never be too safe.

Food at Georgia Tech: Average Unless You Buck-Up
One thing Georgia Tech Dining is notorious for: the awful freshman dining halls. Seriously, if you can avoid Brittain for your entire life, please do. If not, hit up the build-your-own-burrito line because that was probably what I ate for 95% of meals in Brittain. However, we did JUST get a new dining hall (so new it hasn't opened yet. it will be opening for Fall 2011) and I've heard the food is good there so GT Dining may redeem itself.
As far as other dining options on campus goes, there's a pretty good selection of popular eateries in the Student Center, although the Student Center gets very crowded during lunchtime so be prepared for lengthy lines. There's a Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Subway, Pizza Hut, Einstein's Bagels and Dunkin' Donuts, as well as another food court upstairs that has non-name brand (but actually pretty good) foods like a sandwich place, Chinese/Japanese place and a Mexican place. So you can usually cover your cravings. However these places are NOT covered with meal plan (that only covers dining halls) so you'll need to have some extra cash to eat here (or an unlimited meal plan which puts money on your buzzcard).

TONS to Do
You're in downtown Atlanta! There is no shortage of things to do! Especially because we already have a rich college campus atmosphere. I definitely recommend Midtown (literally walking distance from campus) for eating/going out, as well as a few classic Atlanta activities, like Braves baseball games and the Coca Cola factory.

Decent but Not as Good as They Boast...
Flyers and pamphlets will tell you "You'll never have to leave campus!" Well that's not true. There are things you are going to need off campus and transportation isn't great once you leave. While the Stinger (buses) and Stingerette are helpful for campus-related errands, MARTA, Atlanta's public transportation, is difficult to use unless you are going to a very popular destination. It's great for getting downtown and to nearby malls though. Just make sure you bring a friend; it's a little uncomfortable riding by yourself.

Co-Ops Help Prepare You
Co-ops are really big at Georgia Tech. Around 1/3 of the undergrad students end up co-oping and they make a good deal of money. You should check out if there are any co-op programs in your major!
