Not So Good in the South
I'm not in a sorority and I'm going to keep it that way. Sororities at LSU can be good in helping someone make new friends and possibly keep up a certain grade point average (as that's required) and keep up with community service.
But sororities also morph peoples view of things and can cause a girl to believe that having fun is dressing in an inappropriate way as well as drinking and partying way too much. Greek life rules here and if you're not in a sorority then you aren't going to be friends with anyone in a sorority and visa versa. They get trapped in a bubble and they can't get out.
Also, I've found that boys in fraternities start to act as if they are better than everyone else and mostly care about partying and getting with sorority girls.
I've lost a few friends to sororities and fraternities on LSU campus and it hasn't been enjoyable.

Drinking Is the Drug
People here mostly binge drink at least once a week. It's unhealthy but at least it tends to be the drug of choice (as opposed to a harsh drug such as Meth). People tend to smoke as well, probably about the same amount as drinking.

Psychology Degree
I'm getting my bachelors in Psychology at LSU. It's a fairly good program with a large amount of classes to choose from and plenty (but still competitive) of research opportunities. I'm mainly going to LSU because I have TOPS, which covers my tuition.
I feel with my scholarship and my degree and preparation from LSU that I'll be able to get into the graduate school I want to go to in order to earn my Ph.D.
