Is it true that Vanderbilit is a stressful, competitive environment?

Yes. It's a top private school. What do you expect? Haha.

compared to other schools, not really. My friends and I are very open about grades/helping out even in classes that curve

Stressful yes. The classes are tough and do require a lot of work if you don't keep things under control it is very easy to get stressed out. I feel like its competitive in the sense that everyone is smart and getting good grades but nobody is going to try and bring you down for their own benefit. Everyone that I've encountered has been more than willing to help out

What area of academics is Wake Forest known for? like science, business, the arts etc..

I would mostly place my bets on Wake Forest being known for it's business school - as it has a reputation for being very strenuous and difficult. However, the sciences are quite strong here as well, I heard the chem majors have an extremely heavy workload. The arts, well, they're not as advertised as other programs at wake - i.e. business and science - but the arts programs are excellent here! I've involved myself heavily in the arts and loved it!

Everyone calls the school "Work forest". Is it really that hard? I'm all for trying hard in school but is it really that bad?

Honestly, it depends on the classes you're taking. Overall, I will say the workload can get quite intense, but it all depends on your future major. If you're planning to do business or science - then yes "Work Forest" will definitely live up to its name. But there are other majors that will give you work that you need to just keep up with. Ultimately, Wake is a great school that will challenge you in any realm you choose to study in.

Professors do not throw out A's, you have to earn your grade.
