im a junior applying next year and I have been scoping out the spelman website and can not help but think they are playing it safe! I want to know everything they don't tell you! How is the auc relationship really like? traditions? class difficulty? is it hard living with so many females at one time? is their a way to party safely? could my morehouse brother end up a douche? will spelman be patient with me if I don't know what I want to major in? how is the honors program? is their real sisterhood? Please excuse the many questions its the mini journalist inside me! lol! but I want to know anything and everything!

Hi Lacandis! I keep running into you whenever I'm looking up info on Spelman lol. I'm in the same boat as you, I'm also a junior and I'll be applying next year as well! Good luck with your search girl

im attending spelman's a day in your life next Monday and would like to know what should I expect, how to act, what to wear, ect. lol. im kinda nervous because this will be my first visit so anything would be great!

I attended it a few months ago and it is great. It is very personalized and you really get a good picture of the school. You will be walking a lot so dress accordingly to weather. I enjoyed it and Spelman is one of my top school choices. But the day is long. Just a heads up.

So im a junior in high school from louisiana and I AM going to attend spelman college, but my money is funny. I came up with this really good idea: move to spelman after mid-terms and graduate from there so I can receive a zell miller scholarship. my question is: is it really worth moving in the middle of junior year? how much exactly does zell miller pay? Keep in mind Spelman is my one and only so hold nothing back. and if you think you have better routes I can go plzzzzzz say them.

I suggest you graduate from Spelman. The name is everything.

Haha I cant afford Spelman either but I really wanna go. My route is just to do FAFSA and apply for local & national scholarships. Hope it's enough to pay for most!

Im on that broke shhh too. Im from texas and I heard the cost of living is more out there

I heard the same thing but I think It will overall be worth the money lol

is there a church of Christ relatively near the campus??

Yes, there are many churches near campus

are they like walking distance or will I have to catch the bus

Sister's Chapel at Spelman and Clark hold church services every Sunday Morning. Also, King's Chapel at Morehouse holds services every Sunday evening.

what to major in problems

hi! I really want to attend Spelman College but i heard they might not have my major. I want to major in journalism and minor in business and sociology. My mom has a friend who is a professor there and she told me that Spelman doesnt offer journalism or sociology so i will have to go to morehouse for business and Clark for journalism. I really dont want to bounce around from school to school and i really dont think i can even do that. Can i major and minor in these at Spelman or do i need to start looking for a diffrent school? Do i need a new major, i mean im good with anything reading, writing, and history? Can i even have 1 major and 2 minors?

Here's my opinion. The subjects that you have chose to major and minor in are all "big" programs. If I were you I would eliminate one. For instance, Major in business and minor in journalism or sociology. You would definitely have to research this and keep in mind it would prob take you longer to obtain your degree. Perhaps speak to someone in the Mass Media Arts Department, Journalism is a concentration under Mass Media Arts. As far as attending other schools in the AUC, I know that there is cross registration, meaning you may take classes at other schools, not necessarily attend them. You may need to contact those schools or visit their website. I hope this helps, good luck.

You can definitively Minor in something at a different school. I go to Clark but I minor in chinese at Morehouse. The key is to go to the department of which your trying to get into and Just talk to them. More than likely they would love to have you.

Omg we are in the exact same boat!!! Spelman is my DREAM school but I want to double major in both Pre-law and journalism, but Im a lot stronger on the journalism side! The dean of admissions said that I would also have to take classes at Clark for journalism and now Im wondering whether its that serious or if I should look at another school..I really hope i don't have to! I absolutely love Spelman!! :/

sociology is offered at spelman. so you can major in that. Journalism is offered at morehouse i think so maybe you can cross register there or clark and recieve those credits that way! just call them and see they will be happy to help

You can major in Journalism and Minor in Business and sociology. Taking classes at Clark and Morehouse would not be a bad experience at all especially if its a field you are really interested in.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but the AUC is a pretty small community, so taking classes at different schools shouldn't be a problem, all that matters is that you graduate from Spelman.

You can still major in Journalism and Minor in Business with no problem. The AUC is not a really big campus , so it should not be a problem to take classes at Morehouse or Clark and still graduate from Spelman with your degree in Journalism.

ANY ADVICE!!!

Hi! I am a rising junior in high school and i really want to attend Spelman College! I have a cumulative 3.7 g.p.a. , i will have taken 12 A.P. classes, i am involved in junior civitians were i am treasurer, S.G.A. were i am vice president, literacy club, F.C.A., a sports medicine trainer, president of delta sigma theta delta gems, and a member of Church of Christ. I have never been written up for anything except a tardy, i have an overall 26 A.C.T. score and i really want to get into Spelman College. I am african american and live deep in Louisiana and will need lots of financial assistance so if you have any advice please tell because Spelman is my dream school and i have to get in. oh! and i want to do a triple major of buisness, journalism, and sociology. Can you tell me how i should go about that or will it be impossible or anything. And i am a little scared to go because back in september of 2009 i had a cousin who attended and in her sophmore year she was murdered of a stray bullet, is there any new cautions that have now because i would hate for that to stop my dream college exsperience.

Idk about the triple major. Maybe consider a double major and one minor, that may be more likely. Still, it seems to me like you're a shoe in and actually may be overqualified for Spelman. As for financial aid, since you're such a good student they'll probably give you a lot of financial assistance.

Apply you seem like a exceptional candidate.

Youll get into spelman easy. I just got accepted and didnt have that much under my name like you do haha. I heard theyre not the best with giving money, but you seem like a student they would offer more money to haha (: good luck!

thanks!!! and good luck on your spelman journey
