At a university so focused on the practical applications of learning, do you ever feel as if it leaves no room for creativity or courses that don't necessarily help you get a job?

Not at all, our school is very focused on future job opportunities.

Actually I sort of meant the opposite, as in do you ever feel overwhelmed with the job search and miss out on taking classes that interest you even though they don't help your resume? I'm just worried the school is so practical I would miss more of a campus feel to the university

One of the required core courses at Northeastern is a comparative study of cultures course, which doesn't necessarily have to do with one's major, along with arts and humanities courses. Furthermore, students are allotted elective courses, which can be used in however manner they please. For instance, I'm a Computer Science major but I'm taking an art class this semester.

Wow, really? The only reason I ask is because my brother graduated from here with a major in International Business, and was really limited with what courses he could take outside of those required for his major. I want to major in International Affairs, but I also want to try out different courses, too. So thanks!

Do Penn students really earn their negative stereotype, or for the most part are they down to earth students? I'm worried I will feel out of place if everyone's parents are alums and they went to Penn just because it is a big name and not because they fell in love with the school

my best friend is going to Penn this fall, she's a great person who really deserves to go to such a great school. I'm sure with any Ivy there are people that went for the name or legacy, but there are some that simply fell in love with Penn and everything it has to offer. I love the school and am waiting to hear about my admissions decision on the 28th, I'm crossing my fingers for a positive response.

Yah i feel like,i'll be left out to lo because i won't know ANYONE there but i'm sure we'll make friends no matter what. Fingers crossed we all get in!!!

Thanks for the responses! Hopefully we all get good news the 28th

lmao um... i wouldn't say there's a negative stereotype here. there's definitely students with alum parents but you wouldn't even know it most of the time - there's nothing that defines them as such. Penn is really awesome. There's really something for everyone and a lot of overlap as well. You're gonna find the most diverse group of friends here :)

just because someone's parents are alumni doesn't mean they won't LOve the school, in fact they may love it even more

My dad is an alum but when I visited the school I fell absolutely in love with it and just knew that it was the right place for me. Whether or not I had legacy, I would have applied anyways :)
