Do Your Homework
That is, research which professors you plan to take so you know you are getting your money's worth. There are great professors and there are professors who are... less so, and Rate My Professor has been pretty accurate for me so far. For incoming freshmen, it's pretty easy to get your schedule changed if you need to.

Life's Not Too Bad Without a Car
I've been fine walking-- Safeway, Starbucks, a Redbox, and a few off-campus fast food places are well within walking distance. I've yet to see a bus, but according to Google maps they exist. Taxis are available, but don't count on Saferide unless you are drunk, since I think they only pick up relatively smallish groups of drunk people.

Not the Greatest Neighborhood
I've never felt that my safety was in danger, but Logan, especially compared to other parts of Spokane, is kind of a weird neighborhood. Cars get broken into all the time, and Campo (Campus Security) can't do much. There are no cameras in parking lots, apparently, which is really frustrating and weird. Once you're in the dorms, though, your stuff is relatively safe.

Have a Car
There's really not much within walking distance of campus, but if you have access to a car there are a ton of great restaurants off Division, and Spokane is a city, so you should be able to find at least something that interests you.

Four Seasons
You will need clothes for a hot summer, a long, snowy winter, and everything in between. But that's Spokane, and it seems to rain less here than in western Washington.
