Diversity at Rochester Institute of Technology

A-

Safe Haven for Nerds

The main group of people on campus is made of nerds. I'm not trying to be rude, because I fully include myself in this group. RIT has an insane amount of advanced technology, so even by just going there you learn about it, whether you ever wanted to or not. I think the gaming, movies, inventions, etc. bring the campus community together. We have a large white and Indian population, but many people are accepting on campus no matter your background. The minority group that struggles most is probably those with a sexual orientation that differs from 'the norm'. RIT has a club to support those who are gay/lesbian/bisexual, but being friends with many who associate with the movement, I've found they don't feel a strong connection or network on campus. Also, RIT has a large deaf and hard-of-hearing population because of having NTID on the campus as well. There are a lot of mixed feelings toward these students, but the general idea of many hearing kids on school is that they are better than deaf or hard-of-hearing persons. Students all interact well but behind closed doors jokes are made that I feel shouldn't be a part of student interaction. Though there are many students who feel this way, I believe that the student body is working hard to mix students from all hearing realms together and teach them how to interact successfully.

Facilities at Rochester Institute of Technology

A+

Library Is Fantastic

RIT is not a huge sport school, but we do have facilities to accommodate most sports and activities. Hockey is the pride sport of RIT so our ice-skating facilities are top of the line. A gym, baseball fields, turf fields, soccer fields, a pool, a large gym, basketball court, running tracks, and large open greens are all part of the campus. The library on campus is a four story wonder emporium. With a very efficient research system and calm places to study, it is one of the safe havens for students who need to crack down and get work done. RIT has thousands of computers available for student use all over campus, which is a huge plus for freshmen that can't afford one their first year. The entire campus is made mostly of brick, which is tiring on the eyes after the first two quarters, but feels like home by the third. The campus is always kept clean and flashes student activities in forms of posters, chalk and tape art at all times of the year.

Scholarships at Rochester Institute of Technology

B

Hard Work Pays Off

I faithfully fill out my FAFSA and my freshman year got good funding, and this year because of a 4.0 GPA the third quarter I got even more. I was very pleased with the amount of aid I received, but housing is so expensive that I'm not sure if I will have enough money anyways. Financial aid reps are super helpful and willing to assist you in getting all the aid you can.
