Health & Safety at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

A-

Feel Pretty Good

I never feel unsafe around my dorm or the places on campus where I would need to walk alone at night. If I do feel uncomfortable by myself, there's the great option of being escorted home by a security guard. My only concern is the area around the frat/sorority houses and the Superblock. Apparently, a lot of parties go on during the weekends at these places, which go unnoticed by Campus Police.

Facilities at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

A

Clean!

All of the buildings on campus are clean and stocked with plenty of technology accessible to students. There are plenty of places to eat and study, which are easy to locate on campus.

Diversity at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

A-

Pretty Good

Although a good portion of the students are white (mainly because Minnesota is up north), there is a lot of diversity on campus. Minneapolis was ranked the "Gayest City in the U.S.", there are many international students, and there are plenty of student groups for different religions and ethnicities.

Campus Dining at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

B-

Eh...

The restaurants on or near campus are really good, but the dining halls aren't that great. Middlebrook is considered one of the best dorms for food, but on the weekends the options are terrible and the meat is iffy.

Weather at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

C-

Too Cold!

The summer is nice and mild, but winter starts early in November. It snows all the time and the temperature is almost always guaranteed to be below freezing.Thankfully there are tunnels on campus for the students/faculty to use to get to classes and be out of the cold.

Scholarships at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

C

Not Enough

There are plenty of scholarships for students from Minnesota, but there aren't many options for out-of-state students, not to mention most are extremely similar and help the same types of students.

So many classes and majors to choose from! What I love about the U of Minnesota is that not only are there so many options but also the classes are extremely thorough and the requirements make students look at all areas of study.

Transportation at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

A-

Pretty Good

What's nice about the campus being in the city is that the public buses always go through campus. Also, they have free shuttles for students, which are perfect for when it gets cold. However, the parking costs on campus are way too expensive and not worth it to bring a car up to campus.

Love It

I absolutely love the University of Minnesota. There are downsides, especially the cold weather, but there is so much to do and so many people to interact with that I'm glad I chose to go here.

Parking at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

C-

Eh

The problem with parking is that, being on an urban campus, is difficult to find a spot without paying a huge fee. Also, if a student wants to keep a car up with them for the year, the cost is extremely high.

Inside Scoop at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

So Much to Do

Because the U of Minnesota is such a large school, there are so many opportunities to volunteer, work, travel, and study. Also, they stress research opportunities for undergrad students and plenty of programs for students to graduate within four years and pick a successful career.
