Don't Stay in Housing Longer Than a Year
Housing here is ridiculously expensive. If you want anything that doesn't look like a prison - the plain dorms - you either have to pay a significant amount more or live in a triple. The mini-suites (where I live) are beautiful but are more money. The triple mini-suites, however, are the second least expensive housing option. Foothill is secluded and far from most areas in the city you want to go to; it has a reputation as an "engineering" dorm and people think of the people there as very quiet and antisocial (whether that's actually true or not). Clark Kerr is absolutely beautiful, and it looks like a country club, but it is FAR from campus and walking back, it's completely uphill. In my opinion, Unit 1 Mini-Suites are the best option. No matter where you live, try not to stay longer than just freshman year - it's so pricey!

Internet Strictness Is Most Extreme
Don't worry about being punished for partying at Cal - the cops are in the middle of an actual CITY and have more important things to worry about. Internet on campus, however, is monitored. If you go over bandwidth in any given week, your internet is turned off and you have to do an online quiz/agreement. If you download, your internet is turned off, as well; supposedly, you can easily be sued by media companies. Cal rats you out! So don't even try it.
