I'd like to study psychiatry.. would VCU be right for me?

I'm planning to major in psychiatry and minor in psychology

Yes they have an astounding program

You can't major in psychiatry. You need to go to medical school for that.

VCU is a medical school..

Oh woops... sorry, ignore my stupidity.

They have a good medical program, so yeah.

I would think so, VCU has a rather large psychology department with graduate school options available. I have enjoyed the support from the psychology professors from the psych classes that i have taken.

Those are both popular major and minors at VCU. If you decide to do a major and minor just stay focus and achieve!

It would indeed. VCU is known for its medical school.

I think so. You'd have to check the department for details but I think VCU would be good for Psychology/Psychiatry.

VCU has a very good psychology program. The teachers are great and there are many options.

A lot of people don't know that VCU has an excellent psychiatry department. I would definitely consider taking a psych major at VCU.

I took psychology for a semester at VCU. Going in, I didn't really have an interest for Psychology. During my time throughout the semester, I gained a great liking and respect from the class, assignments, and professors.

I've heard very good things about the psychiatry program and you would get great experience with VCU hospital being right there!

Yes!! VCU has a great Psychiatry and Psychology program! They offer tons of internships in both areas where you can get hands of experience and great recommendations for graduate school!

I know the psychology program is great but I don't know much about the psychiatry program. However, since they have such a great medical program I'm sure psychiatry is apart of that.

Is ODU safe??

I've heard that Old Dominion's security sucks, theres a high crime rate, and people get shot at all the time.. I'm interested in the school but want to feel safe on campus. I'd love a response from someone who goes there or went there recently.. Thanks! (:

Its not that bad, just being out late by yourself on certain streets isnt a good idea.

Old Dominion has really stepped up on security. In reality the campus is safe. It's the surrounding area that can be unsafe. Of course, you should always take caution at night.

ODU yes there is crime there but that's just like every other school. I been going there for 4 years and haven't had anything happen to me. As long as you follow the rules, stay away from certain areas, and be safe you won't have a problem.

It all depends on what time of the day it is. Of course you will happen to encounter crimes during late night night so beware! Just be cautious, like walking in groups rather than walking alone at night.

ODU's security kind of sucks. It's getting better since the shooting last summer, but it's still awful. If you live off campus, you have to be careful which neighborhood you choose - and NEVER walk around campus alone.

Old Dominion is relatively safe. Many of the crimes and incidents that happen are not really on campus but near campus and they are due to the lack of common sense of the students.

ODU is a safe school as long as you make it a safe school meaning if you're not walking down dark streets at 4am in the morning by yourself, you'll be fine. I never felt unsafe at ODU.

As long as you stay ON CAMPUS, and are in a car when you leave, it is really safe

I feel that Old Dominion is a very safe school, better than a school like VCU. If you look into most of the shootings that have happened its been between 1 and 2AM and they are off campus around some of the bars.

ODU is very much on top of security on campus. There was a recent incident concerning an assault and ODU Security intercepted and took the person of interest into custody within a very short period of time.

I believe ODU is a safe campus for the most part. As long as the students follow the safety rules and do what your suppose to do if you come into trouble then you will stay safe. It is increasingly becoming more safer to attend as well.

There are always campus police and it really is safe. The ones that get hurt and aren't safe are the ones that are out in the middle of the night and partying.

I never felt unsafe on campus. I rarely went at night, however.

They have emergency areas around campus. Generally, I stay away from the campus area at night.

In every environment there are the good ones and the bad ones. If you are going out at night, you should be with friends. There are campus police patrolling every night, to make sure every student and staff is safe.

ODU has fortified there security due to crime that occurs outside of school grounds. Crime happens but rarely. As long as you don't wander around at 3am by yourself you'll be fine.

I would say in the morning the campus is safe. At night, i would say stay out of the dark places to avoid getting yourself in trouble. Me, personally, i would take all my classes in the morning so i don't have to worry about the securities at night.

Yes odu is safe security and police patrol the area most people who are robbed or shot are out walking alone at late hours of the night

Old Dominion University Majors had a new discussion posted by LeasetteG

I'm considering going to ODU. I want to be a physical therapist Is this school right for me?

I want to major in sports medicine and major in psychology

ODU has a great nursing program, as well as a psychology program, in which I have taken several classes. Plus, when you graduate, they make it easy to transfer to EVMS!

Yes this is a great school to consider majoring in both sports medicine as well as psycholgogy. We also have our own school for PT

Thanks!

It is somewhat right. However ODU is more for nursing. So you might want to consider looking at other University's.

Old Dominion has a great sports medicine program but all the science classes are a little difficult, but nothing that tutoring cant help with!

I know a lot of people who are majoring in psychology and they absolutely love it. They love the classes they are taking and claim that it's easy. Same goes for sports medicine

Yes, the Physical Therapy program at ODU is exceptional and rigorous.

Surprisingly, many of the people I know are majoring in those very things. There seems to be a good amount of opportunity for sports medicine, and many people are finding success majoring in Psychology.

I feel this is a great school because the professors are really into their field of study at ODU. Also, EVMS is right down the street and the internship and job opporunities are really high.

My sister just got her doctorate in physical therapy at ODU. Their program is great! ODU would be a great choice for you.

Thanks!

not the best place for you to go. Pick another school - you'll be safer, and get a better education.

ODU is a very good school to go to if you would like to pursue a career as a physical therapist. I agree that it is a good idea to major and minor.

Im actually not sure. I have heard that they have a giood Psychology program though

I am not 100% sure about sports medicine but I do believe that ODU offers sports medicine and psychology majors. I recommend talking with other students with that major.

Yes, from what i hear, ODU is prety strong in those fields of study.

I would also like to be a physical therapist, Old Dominion is a great school for that program. Although it is very competitive you are almost guaranteed a job after completion of the program

Yes, there is a facility specifically for courses focusing on physical fitness and science.

Quite possibly! My major is in accounting but I am minoring in psychology.

Yes, one reason I went to ODU besides the price is because their exercise science and biology programs are top notch.

Yes! These are not my intended majors, but I know quite a few people in both fields and I've heard great things from students studying in both of these areas.

I have friends who are majors in physical therapy and they love their classes and professors. They also are very close with the members of their major so you can definitely have a good support system.

Yes it is, it has a wonderful program, and right next door is all the hospitals.

ODU will let you double-major in both of those programs! And ODU has both of them.

I am going on the same path, and ODU has an excellent physical therapy program. I am majoring in exercise science to get my bachelors degree, but the physical therapy program is completive, accredited, and the professors are excellent.

ODU has an excellent Physical Therapy program. The program is very competitive and requires a good GPA in order to get into the program.

Old Dominion University is a great school for the above majors. I have few friends who are psychology majors.

I think ODU is a great school to attend. We have a state of the art gym where those type of classes are held and possibly you can receive a job working in the gym while attending school.

Yes, ODU is the right school for you. ODU is a really great college university. Professors and staffs there will guide you through your graduation. They will help you out to achieve your success if you help out yourself first.

Both of those majors are at ODU and you would get a great education from the professors at ODU. This school is right for you.

ODU has an excellent program in the sciences. Pre-Health and Pre-Medicinal science majors are some of the most common majors at ODU. You picked an excellent school to double major for physical therapy in.
