Safe for New York City
The Village is pretty safe, but if you do ever feel unsafe walking home at night, NYU has a SafeRide program if you are ever at or near an NYU building after 11pm and need to get to one of the dorms. The guards are very friendly and helpful, and I haven't heard of anything being stolen yet. As far as health goes, there is a Health Wellness Center on Broadway closer to campus. They're pretty good about taking insurance, too, but if you don't make an appointment they charge you $10.

Not Too Strict
It's easy to get away with anything as long as you aren't too loud or you cover up the smell. Take what you want from that.

Pre-Med Majors Are Limited
If you're really interested in the Medical Field then it probably doesn't matter for you, but your schedule won't really permit you to pursue other interests between all of the required courses. As a Neural Science major, i wouldn't even be able to take any neurology courses until late in my junior year. Also, for a Global University, the only place PreMed majors can study abroad is London, which didn't appeal to me as much as some of the other campuses. I wanted to explore my interests, so I switched to a Computer Science major where I can start taking classes for that right away.
