Campus Dining at Goucher College

B

Sometimes a Miss, but Usually Pretty Good

There is a ton of variety with so many dining halls. There's always some of everything, and they seriously cater to everyone (kosher, vegan, gluten free, you name it). All of the food is supposedly organic and local, thanks to the Bon Appétit service, and the people working are always nice. The food itself is usually very good, but it really depends on the menu. Sometimes they try to get a little too fancy, and it doesn't quite work. But there's always the sandwich option if they get excited so overall, it's pretty good.

Scholarships at Goucher College

B+

Pretty Average, Can't Complain

The process is pretty standard, and there weren't any real issues. I'm very middle class, and I didn't get any need based aid, but I got a pretty big academic scholarship that helped make up for it. It could be better, but it's not bad. I think everyone I know here got some form of scholarship.

Transportation at Goucher College

A

Really Easy to Get Around

Thank goodness for the Collegetown Shuttle. Granted its usually a cheese bus, but any student in Baltimore, with their student ID, can ride free. It stops at every school in the city, plus Penn Station, the Towson Mall, and the Target/Walmart area. There are two routes, and on weekends, it runs pretty late. If you want to go downtown into the city, once you get to Penn Station, you can pick up the Charm City Circulator, which is free for anyone. They also have the MTA buses, which are pretty cheap too, they can just be a little sketchy at night. There are also cabs everywhere, but they are not quite as affordable. On weekdays, its also pretty cheap to get into DC from Penn Station with the MARC train, and Amtrak also goes all over the place for weekends home.

Academics at Goucher College

A+

A great place to be

The classes are challenging, but in a very good way. There's a lot of discussion in ISP as well as Cognitive Science; it's very personal and it's amazing! The professors really encourage everyone to participate, and it's not difficult with the small classes. The professors really care about their students, too. They are all required to have open office hours, and while I usually go in for specific questions on whatever, they have all been concerned with how everything is going in general. Whether its other classes or family back home, they really seem to care about their students. It's really great to be part of such an incredible academic atmosphere.

Local Atmosphere at Goucher College

Baltimore Is an Amazing Place to Be

There is so much to do in Baltimore; it's always fun to go down to the Inner Harbor, and there's always a concert or something going on somewhere near there at night. The aquarium is alos great, as well as a lot of historic sites in the downtown area. It's also really easy to get into DC by train. While the Orioles might not be competing in the World Series any time soon, they have a great student discount, and the games are a lot of fun. The Ravens are right around the corner too. While the city can get a little sketchy at night in certain areas, the people are usually very friendly, and I don't think they have any problem with all the college students. I've had so many random conversations with strangers when waiting for the bus. It's really a great place to be.

Computers at Goucher College

A

Accessible for Everyone

There are so many computers in the Ath, it's crazy. They're extremely accessible, and there are even classrooms full of them that you can access when there aren't classes happening. There are macs and PCs, and all of the Mac desktops can also use Windows. There's really something for everyone. For Laptops, there is Wifi all over campus in every building, and way faster than my internet at home. You get your own password to access the internet (and the computers), so the internet here is very safe, too. Printers are accessible all over campus, and while I would recommend your own computer, it's not hard to get by without one.

Nightlife at Goucher College

B-

Could Be Worse

The Office of Student Engagement plans a lot of different events on campus, most of which are themed dances or game-night type things mostly attended by underclassmen. Upperclassmen seem to go off campus - there's tons of other schools around Baltimore and many people take advantage of that. We usually get a movie that's about to be released on DVD almost every weekend. There's no big Greek life with drunk people sprawled everywhere, but people definitely know how to pre-game here. It's not a party school, but there's always something for everybody.

Weather at Goucher College

A Happy Medium

Apparently this winter has been out of the ordinary, but it's been gorgeous here since February. Everything's green, and it's warm and sunny during the day. About once a week, there's a rainy, kind of gross day, but the pretty days far outnumber the bad. You get a nice mix of north and south, with a little bit of snow and a lot of sunshine. It get's pretty hot over the summer, though.
