Campus Housing at University of California - Berkeley

B+

Housing at Berkeley: Just as Eclectic as the City.

Living on campus is great--and it is basically your only option your freshman year. Typically, students tend to move off campus after their freshman years, because cal housing kicks them out or because it is a better value to live off campus, whether it be in greek housing, a co-op, or an apartment. Unit 1 or unit 2 are probably the best socially, while foothill, stern, or bowles are the best housing for those who would prefer a more quiet environment. Unit 3 is social, but the rooms are a bit small and the buildings are run down. And clark kerr is beautiful; amazing food and rooms--but it is so far away from campus that it is not ideal for any student.

Parking at University of California - Berkeley

B-

Cars on Campus: Unnecessary

I would bring a car on campus only as a senior. As a freshman or sophomore, you really have no use for one. Parking in Berkeley is a nightmare, and the school provides you with a free bus pass at the beginning of the semester that will take you basically anywhere you need to go.

A+

Number 1 Public School in the Nation

We are the underdogs--although our funding has been heavily cut from the state, we still manage to compete with schools like Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Princeton for top programs in basically any field. Come here for any disipline-and you will be receiving a top notch education with some of the best professors in the country.

Greek Life at University of California - Berkeley

A+

A perfect balance

Berkeley fraternities and sororities are not your typical college Greek organizations. The people who go here work hard to get in, which definitely reflects well on the greek organizations. I personally joined a sorority my first semester at Cal, and it has made my experience here that much greater. It is not a big deal if you don't join; I have a ton of friends outside my sorority, but if you can afford the financial commitment, then there is not reason not to just try it out.
