Academics at Xavier University

A

Great Here and Abroad

Xavier University is set apart because of its rich history and ties to the Jesuit motto and ideals. As a Catholic Jesuit school, Xavier functions as more than an academic institution. Their motto of 'cura personalis', or care of the whole person, is embodied throught the strenuous core curriculum courseload. As a non-catholic, non-religious student I was nervous at first but Xavier is welcoming to any type of incoming student. With their small class sizes and qualified teaching staff Xavier is the best place I could have envisioned doing my undergraduate studies. Xavier has a unique experience called an academic service learning semester where I was afforded the opportunity to study abroad in Ghana at my regular tuition cost.

Athletics at Xavier University

B+

Basketball, Basketball, Basketball

Lets just say if you aren't into Xavier basketball you don't fit in. This is a basketball school by definition. The team does well every year because of hard work and great support system. However, school spirit does seem to lack a bit. The student section could use a re-vamp. There is also almost no support for other sports teams. If you are one of the blue crew who paints up for every home game then you'll love the atmosphere but if you aren't then the sports may be lacking for you.

Nightlife at Xavier University

B-

Hardworking Day and Night

Xavier is a strenous academic institution. That being said, that does not mean there is not a party scene. You'll see the drunken passed out dude with marker all over his face on a saturday night in the library studying marketing the next morning. At Xavier we go hard in both scenes. Located just 3 miles from bustling downtown Cincinnati, Xavier is a perfect small town feel in a big town place. The only downfall is bars within walking distance. The historic Dana Gardens is a short walk from campus but that is about it. Off-campus parties are the drinking crowds choice of poison. But Xavier also provides many an opportunity for those choosing not to drink including on campus movies, concerts and even giant food fights (mustard in my hair for days). Xavier is an accepting place so even if you don't drink you can still attend parties and have a great time. Underage drinking is not tolerated and if you drink in the dorms you will be punished heavily.
