Bring Mom and Dad
The best time to sample Claremont's cuisine is when Mom and Dad are visiting, because there are some really nice restaurants in the Village. That said, there are cheap Mexican, sushi, sandwich shops nearby. A few allow students to use Claremont Cash, which is like a debit card that you use for laundry and merchandise. There are so many different types of cuisines, from Spanish tapas to American hamburger joints and a diner. Must check out: Viva Madrid, La Parolaccia, Eureka!, the Back Abbey, Claremont diner, 21 Choices, and Yogurtland.

Never Go Off Campus
You won't need to spend money at bars or clubs because the school basically provides the parties. They fund them and the students plan them, especially at CMC, where parties occur basically every night. If you aren't into drinking, there's always the Motley at Scripps, which provides live acts every Thursday and Sunday. There's always something going on at one of the schools, whether it's a movie screening or a ballroom dancing night. Really something for everyone. Thursdays and Saturdays are the big nights to go out.

Socal.
The weather is usually sunny for most of the year, but this spring it's been uncharacteristically chilly and/or rainy the beginning of the semester. That said, Claremont is definitely the best option if you want great, sunny weather for most of the year.

Suburban Quaintness Near a Sprawling City
Claremont is a picturesque suburban city frequented by well-educated, middle-upper class families. The Village is known for its Sunday farmer's market, locally-owned shops, and its walkable accessibility. It is the absolute perfect place for a romantic date or family outing. That said, there are few bars in the area, so most students opt for campus nightlife, and a few traverse to nearby Los Angeles.
Overall, the relationship between the Colleges and the city at large is positive- in the first week of school, shops are invited to campus to represent their businesses, and most bring gifts like magnets and pens for students. Many businesses provide student discounts and some even accommodate Claremont Cash (the Claremont Colleges' answer to a campus-based debit card) as an option for payment.

An Interdisciplinary Curriculum
As a psychology major at Scripps, I take most of my classes there over the other Colleges, though the others do provide for some interesting courses. However, I have taken my favorite and most unique psychology classes, such as Psych of Work and Family and Psych and Law, at Scripps. I even developed an interest and second major in legal studies from my psychology courses, as I was intrigued by their intersection. Balancing two majors is surprisingly manageable, and I feel grateful that Scripps makes it simple to do so. As a result of the small class sizes, I've been able to foster relationships with my professors, to the point of becoming a research assistant to one. I know that, coming out of Scripps, I'll have personalized recommendations from my professors because they were able to get to know me.

Accessible If You Need It
In 3 years, I've never owned a car on campus (though intend to bring one for my last year just because I can), but the parking garage always has empty spots, so parking is not at all a hassle. You must have a Scripps permit, which, as of now, costs $100 per year. That said, a student can get by without owning a car, but having a friend who owns one is a luxury, as some places are just only accessible by car. Students are able to rent vans from Scripps for a $20 deposit or rent a Zip Car, but it is much more convenient to have your own or a friend's car if you intend to leave campus often.
