Local Atmosphere at McGill University

A+

Amazing!

McGill is in the heart of Montreal, nearest to all the clubbing streets, shopping centers, and great, inexpensive places to eat. Right by the Place Des Arts, and many great museums, as well as the home of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, as well as in the shadow of the beautiful Mont Royal, there's always something to do, no matter what your tastes. An easy subway trip from the olympic stadium, the botanical gardens, and so much more, you'll never be bored unless you want to. All it takes is getting out of the McGill ghetto (where most of the students live) however even if you stay there you'll never be at a loss for activities.

Computers at McGill University

B+

Now and Then

Although most students come equipped with their own laptops or desktops, there's no shortage. Most of the major buildings have a few computers scattered around, and each library (especially the main humanities library) has several on each floor, as well as a place called cybertheque which is almost solely computers in the basement! Printings is a little complex to figure out, and can build up, especially as an arts students with all the articles you'll need to print if you dont have your own computer. A computer and printer are recommended (you could always split your printer with your room mate, cuts down on costs!) but not by any means necessary.

Campus Strictness at McGill University

A+

Freedom!

One of the benefits of a Canadian school (speaking as someone from the US) is the lack of any huge guidelines. At any given time, especially once youre living off campus, you have essentially free reign. There are protests, fliers, events, drinking on and off campus, movies on the lower field, and don't get me started on freshman orientation! As far as I can tell the only trouble you can get in around here is with the cops...and even that's pretty hard. The nice thing though, is that the students here are actually interested in learning--that and partying, so showing up to class is your choice, and one that is usually met...unless you went a little too hard the night before and it's an 8:30.
