Transportation at University of California - Santa Barbara

A-

Biking Is the Norm

The entire campus, as well as markets and restaurants, can be reached through the popular mode of transportation, biking. Not only is biking cost efficient and eco-friendly, but also appropriate for an active lifestyle. While biking works for going to school and a job nearby, having a friend who has a car has many advantages too when it's hot and hiking to a waterfall sounds like a great plan.

Off-Campus Dining at University of California - Santa Barbara

A-

Variety and All Within a Quick Bike Ride

Depending on the day and time, certain restaurants (usually Mexican) stay open late after 10pm because the community nightlife within Isla Vista lasts long into the night and residents get very hungry after drinking/partying. But during the day, there are many more options including Sushi, Indian, Pita, Bagel, Subway, Burgers/Hotdogs/Fries, Mexican, Breakfast, and Sandwich/Salad. Student discounts are offered during each school quarter and students are given coupon booklets at the start of each. Cost of off-campus food vary from $3-$12. There are more restaurants further out that can be walked/biked to but are generally reached by buses (convenient enough to take with designated bustops and reliable time schedules). By bus, you can reach restaurants like Chipotle, Costco Food Court, Hollister, Chili´s, Thai, Argentinian, Italian, French, Bakeries/Pasteries, Cafe´s, and many many more. Downtown Santa Barbara is a good place to go for shopping, dining and wine tasting.

Greek Life at University of California - Santa Barbara

B-

Typical Greek Life

Greek life, like any other, consists of joining a body of students and living under the same roof or meeting regularly throughout the quarter. In SB at least, there are procedures you must fulfill to rush and to cross. Pros of joining is that your house will always be full of people eager to party. Cons would be that you have to deal with all those people, many who are strangers, entering your house and most likely making a mess. Greek Life can be fun for entering the social scene and being guaranteed a group of friends, but it can also be a job considering that one of the requirements of joining is that you devote set amount of hours during the quarter (otherwise you incur a fee).
