Tulane Housing
Housing quality varies greatly at Tulane. The freshman dorms are fairly unattractive, but the options significantly improve with class standing. The cost is relatively expensive and makes living off-campus an appealing alternative; many juniors and seniors chose to live off-campus. The majority of the dorms are centrally located and within a 10 minute walking distance to all academic and social buildings.

Great Nightlife
Tulane is located in uptown New Orleans, close to several bars. Many of the local bars are 18 and older and are thus available to college freshmen. The bars are usually busy at least 4 nights a week. New Orleans also hosts tons of festivals and parades that are extremely fun and last into the night. Furthermore, there are are always frat parties to attend if the bars aren't your scene.

English Major
Being an English major at Tulane grants me a large amount of freedom. The major has a few basic requirements that are not extremely difficult to fulfill, meaning that I am free to explore other subjects. There are a wide variety of English classes available and many talented professors teaching them.

Campus Facilities
The campus is very attractive. Tulane has a lot of quads that can be used for pretty much anything, and they definitely add to campus aesthetics. Reily, Tulane's fitness center, is currently a little small, but is undergoing renovations to make it bigger and nicer. It has multiple basketball and racquetball courts, an indoor and outdoor pool, and two exercise classrooms which offer a wide selection of classes. The library is also a little small, but is likely to be renovated in the next few years. Particularly during finals and midterms, the library can feel cramped. It does, however, boast a large collection of books. The student center (the LBC) is a beautiful building that has dining and study space. It is entirely eco-friendly and houses many of the campus activities. Tulane has a large list of clubs and organizations, all of which can be seen on Tulane's website under "Student Life."

Could Have Been Worse
Tulane gives a lot of financial aid to its students. In fact, most students who attend have a Tulane scholarship. The workers at the Financial Aid Office are very friendly and helpful. When I had questions or problems, I just walked into the office and was helped right away. There are, of course, tons of forms you have to fill out (FAFSA, CSS, copies of W2s, non-filer forms, etc), but that would be the same at any school. I suggest that you befriend your financial aid adviser and stay on top of deadlines.

Not So Great
There aren't a lot of computer labs at Tulane. The library has decent access to computers, but that's about it. During midterms and finals it is difficult to secure a computer. I would recommend that you have your own personal computer. You receive $25 for printing each semester, and one page costs 10 cents (you have the option to print double sided). I have found that $25 per semester to be inadequate because I take classes that require more reading and writing. For some students, however, the $25 dollar amount is more than enough. If you run out, it is very easy to add more money to your account. The network is fairly reliable. Sometimes it stops working, but its usually back up withing a few hours. For a college campus, its about average.

Practically a Joke
Campus police are very friendly and don't often bust students for drinking or smoking pot. If you are caught drinking in a dorm (like by an RA), you are sent to Housing and Resident Life for a meeting. The first time you get a warning, and after that you may be fined or forced to attend an alcohol education program. Unless your doing hard drugs or busted all the time, you not going to get into very much trouble.
