Campus Dining at Brown University

B+

Exciting the First Year; Some Places Continue to Be Delicious Over the Years

Overall, the food on campus is pretty good. After the first year of trying all the options, the two main dining halls, "The Ratty" and "The V-Dub" get a little old. The salad bar in the Ratty is always great though, and the self-serve waffle irons at the V-Dub are fun. Otherwise, the Blue room has great coffee, muffins, sandwiches, sushi, etc. The Gate has great pizza and paninis. It's no 5-star dining, but most of the time you can find something good to eat.

Athletics at Brown University

B

Students Like Sports, but It's Not Their Sole Focus

Students are mostly supportive of sports teams when they are friends with members of the team. That said, the most students show up at a football or soccer game when Brown is playing Harvard. Brown has an exceptional men's soccer team and women's crew team; both of which have won NCAA championships in recent years. Athletic facilities are pretty well cared for and accessible. The school is currently building a new swimming facility.

Nightlife at Brown University

Great, Mature Parties and Gatherings by Chill Upperclassmen

The best parties I have attended have been in my junior year. Some of the immature craziness has passed and students are able to enjoy each other's company with good music, wine or good beer, good food, good conversation, and sometimes fun dancing too.

Weather at Brown University

C+

Providence Has Major Mood Swings

It can be pouring rain and windy one day and beautiful, warm, and sunny the next. The first month or two of the fall semester and the last couple months of the spring semester are beautiful, sunny, and warm in general. In between, it swings around a lot, but the coldest it gets is in the 30s. If it snows, it often rains soon there after which really sucks. Occasionally, in February and January the snow lasts a little longer, which, if it's going to snow, is better than slush.

Local Atmosphere at Brown University

B

Nice City, but We Live in the College Bubble

Brown is on "College Hill," which is actually almost in the middle of the city. For the most part, students stay on campus, but there is easy access to any thing else that the city has to offer. Water fire is something that Providence is known for. (Look it up.) Other than that, the mall is pretty close, there are lots of good restaurants around, and students tend to enjoy the little parts of the city that interest them.

Scholarships at Brown University

A+

Full Ride Baby

Brown only gives need-based financial aid. There are no merit-based or athletic scholarships. They also have a commitment to help everyone graduate without debt. This is a very special feature. I would be spending more money going to my state school, than to go to this Ivy League one.
