Liberal Pocket of the South
College of Charleston campus is a very diverse pocket of a republican state. The majority of students are very open minded and liberal. As a lesbian and a member of the Gay-Straight Alliance, I received no discrimination on campus. True most the students are white and a lot from the Southeast, but if you seek more diversity it is there to be sought.

Pretty Fun
It's a medium sized town so don't expect the nightlife of NYC. But it has a lot of fun places to go, especially over 21, and a hopping downtown. Many bars and restaurants easily in walking distance from campus, or can take a pedi-cab back. Best dance place in town is the gay bar- Pantheon, 18 and up. Plus there are plenty of house parties, but don't try and hit up any frats/ sorority shindigs unless you know them because they are pretty exclusive.

Parking Is a "B"
Public Transportation is not that convenient. SInce the campus is downtown there are LOTS of places you can walk to and do not need a car, exceptions are major grocery store, wal-mart, and the beach. Supposedly there is a shuttle bus to the beach, but I never took it. Buses are a little sketchy and take twice as long. If you opt to have a car parking is very expensive. Cheapest parking is to have an apartment with parking included. Also off campus garages can be less expensive and more convenient than on campus parking.
