Facilities at St. John's University

C

The Athletic Center

The athletic center contains a gym and a basketball court. The basketball court is a great way to pass time between classes. The gym, however, is usually filled with school athletes. Although it is a nice gym, it is always occupied by one of the many sport teams at St. John's. Whenever you go, be prepared to feel out of place.

Greek Life at St. John's University

C

SJU Greeks

St. John's University does have greek life, but does not have much of a presence on campus. Commuting students have a tough time joining because the info. sessions are so late at night (usually at 7 or 8 pm). There are no greek houses on campus, and any unofficial houses off-campus are always monitored by the police department nearby. The greeks do have strong bonds with one another and are often participating in school events.

Majors at St. John's University

B+

My SJU Experience

The program I am enrolled in (CPS: College of Professional Studies) is focused on taking 3 or 4 core classes and 1 or 2 classes of your declared major. It isn't so bad, since taking the core classes allow you to build up transfer credits if you decide to leave, but there are a few classes that no other schools will accept as transfer credits (such as DNY: Discover New York). These classes are fun, and depending on the teacher, will not give a ton of work. Most classes have different themes, such as music or art. This makes class more enjoyable, being able to do work, but compare your work to a music piece or genre. When there are big exams approaching, the school has many different locations a student can go and work in. From the library to a semi-quite area over looking the basketball courts. As for internship/job opportunities, it all depends on how bad you want it. A student without work study will have to keep pushing his application by visiting the student life office at least once a week until he lands a job. You can find internships by befriending professors with connections or attending some of the alumni events, even student life may be able to help.
