Strong School Spirit, Good Facilities
I'm not really a hardcore sports person, but the school sports experience is fun to participate in from my point of view. The fields and facilities are nice, school spirit is pretty high, football games are kind of a big deal and you can hear the cheering from a significant distance away. The weather when not super hot is absolutely great for being out and about in, and therefore there's a lot of great outdoor areas with shade and cool grass.

Weak Public Transit
Except for the light rail which is great, the public transit isn't very reliable (the buses take FOREVER) and it's very hard to get out of the university/downtown Tempe/downtown Phoenix without a car. The immediate area around the university is great for walking and biking, but there are other nice areas only reachable by car. And Lightrail does not reach them nearly enough. Car parking is expensive, but after your first year or two a must.
Campus transport=great and easy. Bike is all you need, maybe use the on campus shuttles.
Local=mostly good, light rail will get you to most of the places college students like to go.
Beyond local=you need a car. No way around it.

Despite Flaws, Love It
If you chose to apply for Barrett honors college, you really get to chose how much of your experience feels like a large college and how much feels like a small liberal arts college. The Barrett dining hall is amazing, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian or just looking to eat more healthily. Stir-fry, gelato, to-order omelets, etc are staples of the dining hall. All my professors so far care and are driven, if you bother to introduce yourself. We have access to so many great resources and the campus is practically like a mini-city all by itself. Plenty of people go overboard with the partying, fine, but it's not as all-consuming as people think. I've been to amazing lectures with Reza Azlan and Paul Davies and seen screenings of great documentaries, I worked on a special paper with a professor where I did field work researching Buddhism in Arizona that turned out to be 16 pages. We have a great sustainability program, a unique Global Studies major (which I am a double major with bio (genetics/cell development). The Study Abroad opportunities are crazy and so good and more often than not have some form of scholarship attached. The education can be top quality if you take the initiative to get what you want. And the administration are willing to help you take the path less traveled if you want it, you just have to want it.
