Campus Housing at Wilkes University

A

Wilkes University: Campus Housing

Although I have only stayed in Evans Halls, the worst you hear about the campus dorms is that the mansions do not have air conditioning. In Pennsylvania the winter months normally last from October to May, so air conditioning is a luxury during September rather than a necessity for the entire school year. Some of the buildings are rather old, but Wilkes does a superb job at keeping them modern and clean (this includes kitchens on every floor of Evans Halls and new flat screen televisions as of 2010-2011 school year). Two thumbs up!

Diversity at Wilkes University

A+

You Can Tell Diversity Is Important

As an incoming freshman at Wilkes University, it's easy to see that diversity is a priority at this campus. Although most students are from the surrounding states and Pennsylvania, at orientation, there were students from places as far as South America, Georgia, and California. There is slightly more men than women, and students can choose to belong to a co-ed dorm if they please. The campus, also, has a variety of religious buildings, and government/leadership programs involving the community, economics, and politics.

Parking at Wilkes University

C-

Pricey and Not Necessary for a Small Campus That Has Alternative Transportation

I personally hope to obtain a parking permit at Wilkes. Each student has a choice of parking on campus (about $120/semester) or off campus by the football field ($40/semester). Unless you need to drive home frequently, I wouldn't recommend getting it at the price the school is requesting. The campus is so small that you don't need to drive, and if you do you can always car-pool with another student. They also have shuttles that take students to the mall, local events, football games, etc. I am getting a parking permit because I live far away, but close enough to drive home if I need to.

Guys & Girls at Wilkes University

A

Friendly

As all college students do, some of the students can get rowdy. But there is constant positive energy to succeed coming from everyone, and a plethora of school pride. Because the campus is small everyone knows pretty much everyone or at least seen they're face before. Many people date, and co-ed dorming is permitted. As for dress, I'd say it's above average, and most students participate in a variety of school events.

Athletics at Wilkes University

B

It's a Small School, So It's Not the Best

I know that the tennis team is very good and highly thought of at Wilkes. I personally wasn't impressed by the football team, but it's entertaining to watch. This school is small, so it isn't like Penn State which is a national leader at essentially every collegiate activity. Everyone is involved and is full of spirit and I think that is what matters most. The gym and YMCA is amazing, and King's (neighboring campus) has a very nice fitness center, as well.

Scholarships at Wilkes University

Not Much Is Offered, Especially for a Private School

This school is private and is rather pricey in my opinion, as well. I am having troubles finding my official tuition price and there isn't much guidance on how to apply my scholarships and financial aid to the overall bill. I will get my bill at the end of this month or the beginning of August, but I feel as though it is last minute and I would like to be familiar with payment plans, which they haven't mentioned a lot about either....Too high of a price, not enough scholarship opportunities from the school, and communication about financial aid and tuition price. This is something I am not happy about.
