Town and College Both Great
The relationship between the town of Middlebury and the college is truly something special. I think it often gets overlooked because there is so much to do on campus, but the interactions between the students and the people of the town are wonderful. Students support the town, often taking the short walk down to do some shopping, go out to eat, see a play or a movie, or visit the farmers market! People from the town support the college by coming to school events such as plays, sports games, and lectures. One place where this is obvious is at college hockey games, where it seems as if the entire student body and the town fill the arena to cheer on the panthers.

Amazing Academics
Middlebury academics are, in one word, incredible. Professors are truly intelligent yet down to earth. They engage in fascinating and groundbreaking research and actively involve their students in the process. Professors care about students not just in terms of academics but also as people - they see us for who we are. They don't just see students as receptacles of their knowledge, but they honor us with the ability to create knowledge of our own. Classes are fascinating, and are generally discussion-based rather than straight lecture. Students are engaged and interested in the learning, and it is an honor to learn alongside such brilliant, diverse, and interesting individuals from all walks of life. The workload is intense but professors are realistic with the amount of work they assign. The important thing is that the work is meaningful and relevant, so even if it is a lot, it is enjoyable to do. The facilities available to us in the form of libraries, study spots, labs, classrooms, and lectures halls are top notch.

Sports
Athletics are a huge part of what this school is. A large portion of students play varsity sports, and many more play JV, intramural, or other informal sports. The athletic facilities are expansive and really nice, and they are all open to the entire college community, not just the sports teams. There is a lot of school spirit, especially for men's hockey games. Some complain of a divide between athletes and non-athletes on campus, which is true to some extent, but it is possible to find plenty of athletes who don't fit (or outright shun) the typical jock stereotype. In general, Middlebury students are very active and love to exercise.

No Greek Life, but Social Houses
There is no Greek life at Midd. There are social houses, which people live in based on interests. These social houses have a dry rush and pledge process, are co-ed, and are generally very inclusive of all types of people. They often throw parties on weekends. There is definitely no divide between students who live in social houses and those who don't, which makes them very accessible and open to all types of students.
