Facilities at Seton Hall University

B+

Facilities on SHU Campus

Atheletic Center - The Richie Regan Recreation and Athletic Center is a satisfactory gym for the average joe trying to stay fit. There are plenty of weights, a yoga/stretch room with mats and other equipement, a room with weights, two basketball courts, a track, a swimming pool, and plenty of machines. I have always had a treadmill available for my workout. There are also two tennis courts outside and a baseball-soccer field.

Student Center - The University Center is always active with activities by clubs or performances by local musicians in the COVE. The COVE has a cafe look while serving a descent range of beverages, hot food, desserts, and prepped food. There are plenty of booths and chairs to find a seat usually. The Student Center also has a student lounge with plenty of sofas, foosball tables, and TVs to watch your favorite sports games. There are also offices of well-known services that support students, such as the Student Government Association, Commuter Council, and Student Support Services.

Library - The library has three floors and has more than enough chairs, desks, private study rooms, and large individual desk-chair sets. In addition the library also has beanie bag chairs and a silent room. There are always plenty of computers available for use, and there are printers, scanners, and copy machines. One student is allowed to use 400 pages of paper for the copy machine per year.

Campus Activities - There are over 100 student organizations on campus - from Amnesty International to Fraternities and from Chinese Club to a Silent Praise Dance Team. There's plenty of diversity and the activities show it. As far as parties and night life goes, it's considered a "dry campus" because most of the local students tend to go home over the weekends. The campus is also small and Catholic so that probably plays a factor into the night life.

Campus Aesthetics - The campus is very pretty with lots of trees and bushes to compliment it during the warm months. Local residents and alumni have often wed in the chapel because of its idyllic setting.

Greek Life at Seton Hall University

B

SHU Greek Life

SHU Greek Life is the most popular social activity on campus because that is how most students create new friends and lasting bonds. Because there isn't easy access to clubs and night life, this is students' ways of hanging out.

Overall Experience at Seton Hall University

A-

Overall SHU Experience

Seton Hall University is a well-known yet expensive private Catholic university in New Jersey. Because of this, many middle to wealthy income local students apply. Yet there is diversity evident when you walk to your classes because you do see a variety of races.

Seton Hall is known for its excellent nursing, diplomacy, and physical training programs. It also has a well-known basketball team. No matter the interest, Seton Hall will offer a quality education because in essence that is what a student is paying for.

The location in South Orange, New Jersey seems like an attraction because it is only a 30-40 minute train ride from NYC, but in fact these train rides are costly if done on a regular basis. South Orange itself is not safe to walk alone around at night, as we have had several robberies at gun point. I have my own pepperspray.

Resources on campus are very helpful because that is part of what students pay for. Security is available at the first phone ring, although they have a reputation for letting anyone through the gates. The Student Support Services has given commuters free lunches to eat and meet with professors. Other resources on campus include the health center, although they have a low minimum health coverage.

I agree with many students that Seton Hall is what you make of it. You have resources available and people ready to help you. You can volunteer in Newark, New Jersey and find hot internships in New York City. You can get a 4.0 GPA without completely loosing your life, and can find off campus living to save costs. It's what you make of it.
