Academics at University of Oregon

Conducive to Growth

Professors and GTFs are very approachable, which makes it easy to have your questions answered. The curriculum varies from class to class; some classes were stellar and some held no more information than could be found in a quick internet search (which would require significantly fewer papers). Registering for classes is very easy to do and it is done online. Workloads naturally vary depending on the level of the class, but nothing was too heavy. Knight Library is beautiful and a quiet place to study (with small rooms where groups can work together) but many departments have their own libraries and are usually a better bet if you need more silence. I loved the assignments I had to do for the classes for my major (interior architecture). The projects made me grow in terms of skills that I'll need for the future.

Facilities at University of Oregon

Great Facilities

I really like UO's library facilities. I usually frequent Knight and the library in Lawrence, depending on my needs. Knight is great for group projects because they have rooms sectioned off where you can talk, as well as for the large selection of books available. In Lawrence, I usually go to print large projects (I'm an iarch student, so most of my projects have to be 11x17), for convenience (it's much closer to the center of campus), or for some extra quiet (since it's departmental, fewer people are there). Lawrence is only open til 11 most days, but Knight is open much later, which is great for late night studying. I'm sure the other departmental libraries are great as well. Very conducive to academic growth!

Local Atmosphere at University of Oregon

Quaint Shopping

As far as I've experienced, shopping isn't too great in Eugene. There are a few cute thrift shops downtown, but they're a little pricey. The two malls in the area aren't very helpful (I usually shop at Forever 21 and Wet Seal, and they have neither) but at least they're easily accessible by the emx. One of my favorite shopping places is the Saturday Market, where you can buy handmade crafts, food, and locally grown produce. It's definitely worth a few visits. The people who run the booths are always so nice!
