Excellent Personal Attention from Anthro Profs
The Anthropology department is fairly small here, but that allows for greater personal relationships between the majors and their advisors. Students focusing on paleo- or archaeological aspect of anthropology have opportunities multiple times throughout the year to go on excavation digs with one of the professors; other professors take their major advisees on research trips during the summer for academic credit an an opportunity to be trained in ethnography while helping with the professor's own independent research. It's a closely-knit department, definitely.

1St Year Living Experience
The residence halls on campus are where most first-year students spend most of their time when they're not in class or busy being over-involved in extracurricular activities. The Resident Advisors are more like upperclassmen friends than authoritarians. In the first semester, there are Student Academic Advisors living in the first-year sections as well, who help read essays, give study tips, etc.--a great resource right next door. Best part of the residence halls: free laundry facilities!

Not Really a Drug Culture
Besides the occasional marijuana use, you never really see drugs on campus, partly because there is stricter enforcement against illegal substance abuse than on underage drinking. Alcohol is more prevalent, but the school has a very respectful policy that allows students to make adult decisions so long as they are not endangering themselves or others. Students are given a lot of freedom, and the campus is a very safe and controlled environment for that.
