Health & Safety at University of New Hampshire

A-

Afraid of the Dark, NOT My Campus.

Like any other college campus, there have been crimes at the University of New Hampshire that have raised concern among students. In the past couple years UNH has reported more crimes than usual, which is without a doubt scary and the text alerts sent out by the campus police put students on edge, I continue to feel safe. The only time I feel nervous is when I walk back to my dorm late at night from working at the dining hall across campus, but the nerves do not come from hearing about recent crimes on campus but the fact that its dark and I'm alone.

Diversity at University of New Hampshire

B

Thumbs Down to Lack of Student Support.

The diversity on the UNH campus is a single digit percentage. Other than not being introduced to a variety of faces, cultures, and social knowledge, being hispanic and attending a predominantly white campus does not make me uncomfortable. However, I am involved in many different organizations that focus on racial and identity acceptance and the stories I have heard about other students struggles with being accepted at the University suprises me and upsets me. The organizations at UNH are amazing but after all the advertising students do, it seems to be the same minority students that attend meetings and events rather than seeing new faces that are interested in learning something new and making more friends.

Nightlife at University of New Hampshire

B

No Clubs, Just Durham.

There are no clubs on or near the UNH campus so students usually turn to house parties which are usually a blast and are all at walking distance. For the students who are of age, they usually go to the bars that are in Downtown Durham. There are no neighboring schools near Durham, NH so if anyone was to leave to visit another school, they would need a car for transportation.
